The chap and his wife who took the trouble to take plates, and a cheese knife with them so they could eat their cheese and biscuits in the correct fashion on a Merseyrail train a couple of months ago was peculiar.
Merseyrail again, Port Sunlight on the Wirral line this time.

Ah, sorry I've misread "near" as "at", initial reports yesterday said it was at the crossing. I assume confusion has come about because that was used as nearest access point to the scene by emergency services.
Most of info known about first incident
Second incident
Speculation is the second was a suicide, obviously that's subject to further investigation and coroner verdict. Suspect it's just coincidence that they've occurred so close to each other (unless press coverage of the first...
I have only ever heard of flooding "in the Parbold area" on announcements when there has been flood disruption. The line across the moss doesn't seem to suffer from it (or hasn't in the last 4 years I've been paying attention to it). I thought this...
There have been a couple of week long blockades in last couple of years, but they've been the whole line Southport to Wigan rather than just to Parbold. Certainly sections of the line are noticeably quieter and less bouncy than others now, it used to be like a wooden rollercoaster throughout...
Would make more sense if the realignment was for the section through what used to be St Lukes station which still clearly diverges for an island platform that's long gone. Location here: http://goo.gl/maps/8Ij4A
What's the rumoured change at Meols Cop?
Just now on the Manchester - Southport train: "First class towards the front of the train... Cheap seats at the rear." Front unit a 150, rear unit a 142 :D. No idea if it started as a mistake but either way fantastic!
Apparently it's also valid via Hunts Cross I was told yesterday at the station, so as long as Merseyrail are fine with me pootling up and down the Southport-Hunts Cross stretch on the Northern Line on it, it's good enough for me.
Thanks for the quick reply! I have no doubt the reasons why this long way round is valid are a bit complicated, it seems to make little sense, but if it saves me a few quid buying Southport-Liverpool-Manchester tickets for the outward journey tomorrow I'll take it!
