"A person has died after being hit by a train at Ponders End station.

Ambulance crews were called to the station, in South Street, Ponders End, at 1.50pm where the man was found under a train.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

No details have been revealed.

The line is now fully open but delays are expected on the train between Liverpool Street, Hertford East and Enfield Town until 5pm as a result of the incident.

London Air Ambulance also attended the scene, landing at nearby school Oasis Academy Hadley."

Statistics probably weren't counted in the same way they were today - and it wouldn't be entirely reliable data without pointing out that suicide is harder today than it has been before - you can't just stick your head in the oven or put a hose on your car's exhaust anymore.

The person was on a bridge and was struck but not setiously injured..good news hope the person gets lots of help

We can all be reassured now that the govenment is taking mental illness seriously and increasing funding ( at least till May 2015 )

There has been another two today one at Burton upon Trent this afternoon in the Stretton area of the town. Another one in Littleport in Cambridgeshire.

Thoughts are with all involved particularity the drivers at this difficult time on the railways.

Worryingly number of people on the track - not "suicides" - but in a position of danger - incidents at Redhill and Ilford in the last 48 hours - and a very nasty one (life threatening injuries) in Inner Kent last week.

We can all do our bit - as I am sure most do - by keeping a sharp eye out when "about the railway" - may save a driver , station staff, Mobile Operations Manager and the emergency services from a horrible scenario.

The government hasn't taken mental health seriously since it closed all the mental hospitals in the 1980s and replaced them with "dumped in the community"

Mostly they appear to be mentally ill or depressed people deciding to end it all (hence my comment above yours)

Mental healthcare in this country is utterly abysmal, as is the taboo about mental illness, which results in people not doing anything about it, for fear of the repercussions of admitting a problem, until they are very very ill, by which time it is too late and they do irrational things (like stand in front of moving trains)

All the best for the staff and the recovery of the chap injured in the 'inner Kent' one, seems he blacked out and fell unfortunately. On the same morning, a guy at Deptford climbed down in front of a train and just stood there in protest at something :-x

I agree. Have had a little experience trying to help and it is apparent how ordinary and lovely these people are - when they are not so depressed and downcast. I would have thought the number of people tragically struck by a train even in those days was as simple and straightforward to record then (albeit on paper) as it is now unless you mean that most of the old records have since been lost
