As someone else has already said this way of promotion was created by First before NX took over. It also works like this at Norwich under the former operator Anglia. Depot driver are 90% up to speed with the rules applicable to main line driving and when made up only have to have a few months...

They would start on the depot drivers rate of pay. It is the fairest way of doing it as it wouldn't be right that a depot driver who has been in the grade for a few years waiting to get a mainline job is leap frogged in the promotion by an external applicant.

On the GE side you would have to start as a depot driver and wait for a main line position wether already qualified or not.

The up platform holds 12 but the down is only 8, though not been there for a while.
