If it's of any interest to anybody a class 156 will be working the first 4 Braintree - Witham shuttles on Sunday 18th October due to an engineering possession which involves the overheads being isolated.
The last working will be the 11.00 Braintree - Witham after which an electric into will take over. The 170 will operate the service starting with the 20.35 Witham - Braintree until close of service.

Will be interesting to see the 170 worked as no guards sign both 170s and the Braintree branch. Assume will run DOO.

Could a route or traction conductor be provided? Presumably it would only be one shift's worth of work for someone, so hopefully not the worst thing in the world to try to cover... all other things considered, of course.

It was booked to run DOO.
When the Lowestoft/Peterborough trains ran through to Liverpool Street they were DOO from Ipswich to Liverpool Street.

Can 170's run as DOO?

Most defiantly they can as long as running as a single unit. Plans are a foot to be DOO again in the new East Anglia franchise Ipswich-Liv St (off East Suffolk) & possibly Ely-Stansred Airport (ex-Norwich).

Do Norwich sign DOO (P) these days?

Would Norwich drivers sign from Cambridge to Stansted? Or would a West Anglia man take over?

That will be very interesting neither depot sign both the route and traction, They sign one or the other.

West Anglia would object to Norwich signing south of Cambridge arguing its their service now (Cambridge to Stansted) and Norwich will object if WA bods sign the road from Ely to Norwich and the traction.

Would be easier & cheaper for Norwich crews to sign the route than it would be to send Cambridge crews on a traction course but as Class 170101 says, neither depot will give in to another taking over their work. Interesting discussions ahead I predict.

Indeed, but given that many Norwich drivers diagrams consist of London and back then Cambridge and back (or vv), learn Stansted and it's a complete diagram re-write.
