From what I've read in the past, the Calton Tunnels were singled in the late 80's to allow for electrification. This was because if they hadn't singled them they would have had to lower the tracks in each tunnel to get enough clearance and this would have added to the cost.
It also turns out...
I was always curious myself what service Glenrothes with Thornton would see if the Levenmouth link was reopened. I wonder if there has been any thought of re-siting the Glenrothes With Thornton station to the site of the old Thornton station, allowing services on both parts of the Fife Circle to...
TPE already do a similar thing with Edinburgh Waverley - Manchester Airport service, where in none of the departure boards in the Waverley or the on-board announcements on the train itself list it as stopping at Haymarket with Lockerbie being the first announced stop. For the return service none...
I found this about the proposed second platform at Dunbar for those who are interested.

I guess if we are being really specific here then Edinburgh Waverley doesn't count as it was originally three stations not two,
These Being;
North Bridge Station of the North British Railway
General Station of The Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway
Canal Street station of the Edinburgh, Leith...

I pass here quite a lot and wondered the same thing, although it may have something to do with the house building at the old Abbeyhill triangle or even the other building work going on along the side of the ECML (next to Student flats) just before Meadowbank.
Musselburgh: Station Road Is where the old station on the Musselburgh branch used to be where as the current station is served by the ECML on the edge of town.
I don't think that extending platform 18 needs to see the North ramp being removed. It seems like it's possible to extend that platform down to and around the North ramp in the same way they are about to extend platform 12.
The BTP building would need to be relocated but the roof support pillars...
Shortest one I can think of is the original Wallyford station. Opened in June 1886 and closed the October of 1887.

Very little mention of it anywhere but apparently it was in the location of the current station.
