Thameslink peak time train ticket from Flitwick to London is £47.70. 12.5% of that is £5.96 which is rounded up to £6 for Delay Repay payouts for a 15 minutes delay on one leg. Our school and nursery charge more than that per 10 minutes of lateness at pickup. So definitely not inconsequential...

Exactly this. Also on a two-platform station, or at least ones where you can guarantee your train will definitely arrive on that platform, it's fine to spread out. The amount of times I've been given 20 seconds' notice of a platform alteration at various stations, especially West Hampstead...

If there is a seat selector - possibly with higher charges for "better" seats a la low cost airlines - then sure they will. And of course a forward facing seat at a table next to the window would be more valuable than an aisle seat facing backwards without a table.

Does your £2k calculation use the full undiscounted Anytime fare for the full journey, multiplied by two for a return, without any discount for the fares you have already paid?

is the OP's proposal to reduce the number of trains during the week, or increase the TOC staffing level by maybe 25% and run the same timetable 7 days a week?

And if I paid for seat B34 because it's a table seat facing forwards, and the train arrives in reverse formation so I'm sitting backwards? The seat exists, I sat in it, but it wasn't what I paid (potentially a higher price) for?
