Lickey Incline - are freight trains given a running start?

These two photos from Gloucester PSB show the max tonnages banked and unbanked per loco. Interesting the 70 got put down for the same as the 66. https://www.flickr.com/photos/llangollen_signalman/14545175978/in/set-72157645880526091...

    Railway live websites

Railcam have extensive coverage, although charge for it. £10 a year I think? Of all the sites, they are the ones that seem to be adding content. Open Train Times has gone through a lull recently but still has the most advanced maps. Some of them have track circuits and signal/routing...

Bank Slip at Unstone - MML between Chesterfield & Dronfield.

Just to confirm that this is indeed what is happening. Crosscountry are reversing at Sheffield and Northern appear to be terminating their Leeds to Nottinghams at Sheffield.

    Class 374s and Ashford?

Are the platforms definitely built for European gauge then, bearing in mind the 373 wasn't?

    Mid-distance mainline electrics

I don't think MML users would be happy with a 444 variant. Good train for SWT to be fair but it's very utilitarian, seats are verging on uncomfortable (though not as bad as they look) and the ergonomics of the seat by the window (1 out of every 2 on the train) is an absolute disaster. The...

Which locos can haul the heaviest freight trains?

I think 59s do haul the heaviest. Here's one timed at 4800 tonnes: http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/H65607/2014/01/29/advanced But 92s have much more power. Don't know about starting effort though.

Is it possible to couple Desiro classes 450 & 444?

No, not non existent. Happens on my commute about once a month to/from Waterloo. It always seems to sub a set which is normally 10 444 rather than a 12 450.

    HS2 Hybrid Bill

Louise Ellman, chair of the Transport Select Committee was questioned during Report Stage on the Paving Bill about whether her Committee had looked closely enough at the Government assumptions. She could only answer along the lines that their last report was in 2011 and that a number of...

    HS2 Hybrid Bill

Thinking about it some more, I now see why David Higgins has been asked to report on lowering the cost of HS2. The report is due to be published in March 2014, just before the Hybrid Bill second reading which for the reasons above is when the real decision on the project will be taken and is...

    HS2 Hybrid Bill

First post but very long time lurker. I thought it might be useful to have a thread detailing progress on the HS2 Hybrid Bill as the other HS2 thread deals mainly with the merits or otherwise of the project from an industry and enthusiast perspective. The Hybrid Bill is due for deposit on 25...
