History of the Transpennine routes - Book recommendations?

Hello, I know very little about the Transpennine route so am looking for book recommendations around its history - and preferably one that is up to date with the modern Transpennine Express company, too. Does such a book exist? All recommendations welcome. Thank you.

Caledonian Sleeper / Where To Travel In Scotland

Hi, As a treat for my son, I'm planning a trip on the Caledonian Sleeper - probably as far as Fort William. (We live on the south coast so will be an epic outing for him.) I'm planning on staying in Scotland for a couple of days before taking the same back south again - does anyone have any...

    SWT Class 73

Well, not sure whether anyone is still following this thread though, if you are, after all your help, my son wrote to SWT who said they did still have a 73 in active service - turns out it's the same numbered one as on his layout, too! Eh voila! (See photo, if it's attached ok.) Thank you so...

    SWT Class 73

Thanks for the responses. I'll drive down to have a look over the fence ... though, if I'm not mistakable, you can see it on Google Maps! [50.72548,-1.906522] (I appreciate it may have moved a little in the intervening years since the photo was taken!)

    SWT Class 73

Hello all. My son has just obtained a SWT livery Class 73 for his model railway and is quite fanatical about it. I understand that SWT may have one 73 still in operation? If so, does anyone know the best place to see it? Many thanks in advance.

What Was That Train ... in 1999?

Not sure I could remember which carriage but where does one go for a specific days allocation? I could match it to the time of catching from Fleet. Appreciate any help. Our son is now building his first model railway and it would be kind of fun to see a suitably numbered CEP running on it...

What Was That Train ... in 1999?

Yorksrob - You may be right! Thank you! Now, how do I track down the timetables so I can get the exact train number ...

What Was That Train ... in 1999?

On reflection, there may have been a door half way down the carriage as well ...

What Was That Train ... in 1999?

The plot thickens on this one, unfortunately. After many years of commuting on slam-doors there was a period around 1998/99 when a number of 'single-door at each end of the carriage' rolling stock turned up on an infrequent basis. I recall some of the interior paneling was an unsightly...

What Was That Train ... in 1999?

This is a LONG shot but if I have the details of a specific train time in 1999 which ran to Waterloo via Fleet (Hampshire), standard commuter service, is there anywhere I could look up what it was? (It was the train I first met my wife on.) Any help appreciated.

    XC 170s in the South?

Greetings. Can anyone let me know how I find out where, if I live near Portsmouth, is the closest place I can go to see a XC 170? (It's a request from my six year old.) Thank you.

    Dordogne Region Trains

Hello all. I'm going to be in the Dordogne this August and know nothing of the French rail system. Can anyone recommend a good place to swot-up on what I may see? Many thanks in advance.

Cross Country Voyager Travel Only ... ?

Many thanks for all your help arranging this trip. My son and I had an enjoyable trip - and even managed to ride on 221 141 - which was a treat (if you know your Voyager's you'll know why)!
