What Was That Train ... in 1999?

This is a LONG shot but if I have the details of a specific train time in 1999 which ran to Waterloo via Fleet (Hampshire), standard commuter service, is there anywhere I could look up what it was? (It was the train I first met my wife on.) Any help appreciated.

Are you looking for the type of train - or the particular unit ? If you're looking for the type of train, that might be easier. Did it have slam doors ? If it called at Fleet, there would have been a reasonable chance of this.

99% chance it was either a VEP, CEP, CIG or a combination of either together.

The plot thickens on this one, unfortunately. After many years of commuting on slam-doors there was a period around 1998/99 when a number of 'single-door at each end of the carriage' rolling stock turned up on an infrequent basis. I recall some of the interior paneling was an unsightly tangerine/orange colour and the seats were a 4+4 config, not much else. This could be harder than I think!

Ah yes, you can still see a couple of CEP's in preservation. Mystery solved

What do you mean by train number? the unit number? You'd need the specific diagram allocations for a particular day.

Not sure I could remember which carriage but where does one go for a specific days allocation? I could match it to the time of catching from Fleet.
Appreciate any help. Our son is now building his first model railway and it would be kind of fun to see a suitably numbered CEP running on it one-day (though I'm not aware anyone manufactures one - think Hornby is currently the closest with its VEP).
