Annoyed me the other night when an Italian chap on Portillo's railway journeys was waxing lyrically about their Pendilino and what a fantastic Italian idea it was.
RTC and BREL idea and development I believe, just that the government at the time decided to pull the plug.
Fawley, Eling Tramway, Hamworthy branch, Yeovil Pen Mill to Yeovil Junction of those that have not been mentioned. Bit too young for the ones I would have love to have done.
Poole to Templecombe, but without a sensible connection (Exeter bound) cannot see the worth of it. On the northern section Shepton Mallet to Bath as a commuter line.
Nice to dream but I cannot see much traffic generated from the line itself to justify reopening
We had a CIG with shoe gear lifted and 73109 working Weymouth Quay in 1994 for the D day commemorations. The EDL was named Force O Weymouth with the battle of britain plates covered up, the only time a mainline loco has ever carried two sets of different names plates at the same time.
On a lighter note, back in the 90's working a Waterloo Weymouth fast, mid morning, had a gun toting arab refuse me entry into 1st class to check tickets. Some Saudi prince was travelling and his bodyguards thought he had bought the coach, our boys in blue met the train at Bomo and put them right!
Ah, like the network away breaks or network cards, a whole lot of new excuses. No one told me I couldnt travel in first class with a NAB at 8:30 on a Monday morning etc.
Whitstable to Bridport in 1963/64. Can remember the underground's car had a wooden slated floor and at Paddington dad was pouring out tea from a thermos and spilt it when the loco backed onto the train, thats my only memories as a three year old.
The Portland branch all the way up to Easton. Ruling gradient of 1-56. Would be a great assest to Portland Port whilst 'heritage' trains could also share the line. Climbing out of Weymouth, skirting Portland harbour then running along Chesil beach before clinging to the side of Portland and...
The check rails on the main line have been raised higher than the running rails therefore there is the risk of the flangeless centre driver riding up on the check and derailing the loco
