When walking along track, why shouldn't you step on sleepers?

Perhaps the answer is to wait 10,000 years for human evolution to evolve feet like Alpine Ibex, then we can walk not only on sleepers without slipping, but up cutting/embankment walls as well ;)

Portishead Approved - Construction Updates Thread - No speculation

Yes this is what I'm hoping for. Usually this happens if a slightly late-running XC causes the Cardiff-Taunton/Exeter, which usually leaves 8-10 minutes after, to leave first, where the latter is held at Bedminster to let the former through. Of course where the XC is really late, the overtaking...

The Department of Transport Should be Re-located to Whitby.

Doesn't the Darlington campus sort of fulfil this?

    Reform UK discussion

There was a hotly-watched council by-election in Kent on Thursday, taking place in the Dover area and previously Conservative, where Reform UK and Restore Britain were eyeing up victory in the land where the boats they want to stop turn up. In the end the vote split three ways led to the Greens...

Portishead Approved - Construction Updates Thread - No speculation

Is reinstating the third platform at Parson Street part of the plans? This would allow Portishead trains to serve the station and run through into Bristol without conflicting with services from further SW.

Potential solutions for earth shifting after dry weather?

I can't find a dedicated thread for the current WoE line situation, but the area should be getting a decent dollop of rain over the weekend, on top of sporadic rainfall this week so far. Hopefully this should at least stabilise the embankments; likewise for other areas struggling.

    Southeastern metro fleet replacement/improvement

Siemens will have more than enough work with the 2024 stock for both the Piccadilly and the Bakerloo lines, so won't be selected unless they have capacity to build multiple fleets at once.

    Southeastern metro fleet replacement/improvement

The MetCam Networkers have C6 overhauls due around the end of the decade, so the first units will need to arrive by then to avoid a serious shortfall. I don't know when the BRELs are due a C6, however they're getting C4s this year, which suggests they could be given one more C6 before withdrawal.

    Could Northern get additional stock?

Probably not right now, although if 222s can displace a few 170s this might work, then some more after the BEMUs arrive.

Offal - why are less-desirable cuts of meat more expensive?

Clarkson's Farm alluded to this while he was getting his pub setup. The chef pointed out that you can't send a cow into a pub and have dozens of meat cuts on the menu as it would be too complicated to run the kitchen and for customers choosing. Clarkson found a work around by moving the butcher...

Potential solutions for earth shifting after dry weather?

And that which doesn't evaporate is mostly absorbed by plants. Maybe what's needed is for water main leaks to only occur in the vicinity of railways in need of "watering"

    Could Northern get additional stock?

Is there any truth in GWR getting TfW 158s? I thought this was ruled out due to different engine types between these and their current 158 fleet.
