    Reform UK discussion

There's an almighty bombshell investigation in funding Reform UK received for polling, where undercover journalists filmed meetings several Reform UK members, including Farage and his close associated, illicitly funding key polls: (Video of Channel 4 of the investigation into secret donations)...

Wind Power and UK Energy Use

You cannot see a much clearer case in favour of renewables and moving off the gas pricing contracts than today's price graph: https://grid.iamkate.com/ (Graphs of price per MWh vs Generation in last 24 hours, showing a strong price drop to near £0 at the peak of solar generation) With gas...

This could go tits up for Polanski

The Green Party of England and Wales now under Zack Polanski

Planning to stand in the by-election, although there might be a split among Green members in the area who don't think he is pro-Gaza enough: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cge41ee40vwo

Cross-country overcrowding: what could be done?

How easily could a follow-on order of Class 897s be made once the LNER ones are built? I imagine XC would not go for 10-car ones, but a mixture of 5 and 9-cars might do the trick, while also not being stuck in the queue behind OAOs and HS2 fleet that Hitachi have ahead.

    Reform UK discussion

They really don't want being third going into their party conference tomorrow (although the % difference is very low)

What should the punishment be for leaving user worked level crossing gates open

Tie them down to the tracks ahead of an oncoming train like in almost every action movie.

The Labour Party under Andy Burnham

Blair also stood down immediately after leaving No.10, though at least with him he'd been in the top job 10 years. Boris Johnson absolutely wanted to stay on in the hope he'd make a quick comeback, however the Privilege's Committee investigation all but ensured that would be impossible; he quit...

Electrifying Mainlines for Battery Train operation (using Class 897 as an example

On the XC network most of the 100+mph running is already electrified; Birmingham-Derby is the main exception, but this would be prime for electrifying anyway.

I think they were being sarcastic.

The Labour Party under Andy Burnham

Just like David Cameron, he took all the holiday pay over summer recess then resigned on the first day back: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cvgy4258kgyo

    Class 175s to GWR

I suspect the danger here is if a unit fails, the trek back to Laira is longer and potentially more disruptive if breaking down near Taunton.

Products and services where the new version is not as good or has significant disadvantages as the old

The rise of bluetooth headphones also allows both. Yes this is a big issue for me as well. There are several other instances of software/websites where users try to hold onto the old version for as long as possible where possible.

    Class 175s to GWR

I'm guessing 175003 and 175115 are the only two units that have cleared the 1000 mile fault-free testing so far.

Products and services where the new version is not as good or has significant disadvantages as the old

This would be enough. There are not many things I can think of where improvements in service have been made. I suspect a lot of it is cost-cutting and/or extra means to profiteer (especially by making consumers by replacements more often). More specifically several TOC's first class services...

Paignton station relocation / modernisation / expansion & regeneration of the area?

How easily could the Sands Rd LC be closed? There's a road bridge just to the south so it's not like an alternative route doesn't exist.

    Southeastern metro fleet replacement/improvement

Two of the Up sidings can do more than 12-car; one of them can do 16-car technically (the other IIRC is 14 to account for a walkway crossing). At the moment one of these sidings is OOU due to third rail safety implications, however as the new fleet is intended to come with battery capability, I...

    Southeastern metro fleet replacement/improvement

Depends on the new unit's length: the turnback siding is max 11-car, so anything 12-car won't be able to use it, while 8-car will likely be insufficient length. They might be better off putting 707s on the route once they have toilets to form 10-car, or having 11-car 375s (or a mix of the two)...

    Southeastern metro fleet replacement/improvement

The branches are relatively short journeys with a line speed no more than 70mph (except Paddock Wood-Tonbridge for the handful of services that still do this). The 375/3s have relatively poor acceleration, which on a frequent calling pattern is not ideal, and while they might have better...
