Is it? From what I saw there on Wednesday, it's still possible for a train from Smethwick to terminate in platform 1 (or at least the track exists for that; not sure about pointwork and signalling).
Hardly impossible though.I say lifted, essentially their locked out of use points and signalling wise with a manual lever pull required near the junction box. A driver wishing to leave the branch would have to dismout go over to the signal box and pull the lever then return to the vehicle, cant be done remotley.
Wouldn't lifting the connection make it a nightmare to take the PPM to some sort of heavy servicing depot or whatever?
Ive had a brain wave - it is still there and will always be, the units traverse the link track when they are being swapped over. They just don't go past a certain point that is marked - before the main line begins.
