Is there a list of train depots anywhere?

I was idly wondering where TPE stash their Manchester Airport-Cleethorpes units and EMT their Newark-Grimsby/Cleethorpes units, and became curious about how many depots there are throughout the country.

Platform 5 used to publish something called Depot Directory Pocket Book which gave addresses of all depots, what lines they could be seen from, advice about vantage points in the local area, and directions how to get to them on foot or by public transport from the nearest station. Not sure if they still do though.

The junction website has a list of depots. I'm not sure if it lists every stabling point and some passenger stock is stabled in platforms overnight rather than on depots.

With the EMT Question I'm 99% sure that they are stabled overnight In the bays at Lincoln, and are fuelled and maintained at Nottingham Eastcroft. Don't quote me on that though.

Rather like the old 'Loco-Hauled Travel' and 'Diagram Diary' books, it would (sadly) end up being just one or two A4 sheets long. Gone are the days of a big depot bash of Darnall, Tinsley, Worksop, Shirebrook, Toton, Derby etc!

TPE stash 4 Class 185's at Cleethorpes overnight, where they will be fuelled & given a light service (mainly cleaning etc.). The main depot for TPE is at Ardwick, just outside Manchester Piccadilly, where all the Class 185's (& Class 170's) will end up during the week at some point for a proper service & checkover (all comes down to the diagramming of the units).

EMT will stable units at Lincoln overnight in the bay platforms and also the main platforms (3, 4 & 5). Freight through Lincoln uses the centre roads, so is unaffected. The main servicing will be done at Nottingham, and the diagramming for the units will be in such a way that they end up at Nottingham at least after a couple of days so they can be refuelled, serviced etc.

I still have the Platform 5 "British Rail Pocket Book No.4...."Depot Directory Pocket Book"...Third Edition(1983)...90p, (together with the D & L Railway Publications "Number by Number... First edition booklet...1983" of the same size), that I purchased on a "North-East Depots" weekend tour organised by the Lancashire Locomotive Society.

This seems far longer than 28 years ago now..

Is that the one with a split box 37 on the front? I've got it somewhere.

Who remembers spending ages on a bus from Sheffield city centre to the Three Magpies hotel in Brinsworth for 2p, full of excitement about a visit to Tinsley? The only time I ever cleared a class in one glance was my first visit there.

Indeed it is, with 37040 being the one on view outside the BREL workshops in Crewe. On the back cover, are cab fronts only of 56005, 56014 and 56016 at Shirebrook depot. The book is 60pp plus a laminated 4pp board cover.

Does anyone know what happened to D & L Railway Publications who produced the other publication, which is 68pp plus a laminated 4pp card cover. There is a small sticky label on it with a price of £1.50. (This book gives their address as being 10 Woodfield Drive, Charlbury, Oxford, OX7 3SE)

This isn't the BBC you know (full of repeats!).

No-one came up with the answer that I was seeking when I first made the posting that you were so kind to bring back to the forum. I thought that by asking the question again some time later, it may have been seen by forum members who had not seen the original posting, but I suppose 1983 is too far back for many forum members to be able to answer my question about what happened to D & L Railway Publications.

Thank you for going to the trouble of showing the previous link. It shows that our forum moderators can be really helpful in cases such as this.

As the number of depots these days is comparatively small, could someone on here not compile a spreadsheet with depot information on it? If everyone contributes, then a reasonably complete list could be assembled and made available to forum users? Just a thought...

There is a depot list on freightmaster for anyone on Freightmaster.
Forgot something, Cleethorpes strangely has a TOPS depot code (CT)
Thanks, Sam

Yes i remember doing that move very well. I could hardly believe it when the driver told me the fare on the very first trip. One of the two WYPTE spec Roe Olympians turned up one Saturday. Same interior decor too.
