Good Evening, All being well I will be travelling on the RTC Steam Charter to the Swanage railway on 15 October 2011, does anyone know if there is a shop there that sells 2nd hand OO gauge model railway odds and ends?, I'd like to see if I can get any bargains, also does anyone know of any good pubs that do food in the afternoon near Swanage railway Station. Tks Steve.

If there is such a shop in Swanage I'm afraid I haven't discovered it yet! As far as I know there's just a rather upmarket collectors toy shop with very few trains, but 2 full size daleks on display. The shop is very close (next door or next door but one) to the Wimpy.
As I drive to Swanage, I can't comment on the pubs. I tend to eat at Beavers (great name eh?) which provides good pub style food at reasonable prices all served by pretty and young waitresses. It is almost opposite the aforementioned dalek shop.
There are 3 Italian eating places near New Look, I've eaten in each and they are pretty good. The chippies opposite the Heritage Centre (again, near New Look) are also pretty good. I prefer the one nearer to the sea.
Hope this helps a little!

There's plenty of pubs to choose from, the station is only a short walk from the seafront and the middle of town, but I couldn't vouch for quality of what grub they might provide.

If it helps, Swanage Station shop sells OO gauge models as well as a good selection of books, DVDs and (I kid you not) Dorset Knob biscuits.

The Birds Nest Buffet has just been refurbished, so that's worth a try on the food front. If that isn't suitable the Red Lion is a good one for a pint, and I can tell you from experience that Butterfingers bakery is a Swanage loco crew favourite...

Thank you for that Pinkpanther, I will have to try a Dorset Knob!, I'll check out the shop at Swanage Station and the others you mention too.

I have just found out this train will be interesting, as instead of going from London Victoria or Waterloo, which would be normal for Swanage trains, this one is departing from Euston, so going north to go south. That will be some new track for me. :D Rgds Steve.

I Went on the Swanage Steam Train from London yesterday, the Red Lion Pub was fine for food and drink. The running with the 2 locos was very good indeed, Oliver Cromwell outbound and Tangmere on the return journey which gave a really fast performance. Timings were very good throughout the day and the weather was great too, a really good day out. :D
