German bank KfW has repossessed 50 Siemens trains: http://www.thelocal.de/money/20111007-38063.html
Did Bulgaria pay for the 86/7s that they got?

I think that train in the picture on the submitted URL is a pretty fantastic looking train, much better than the dull crap we have over here.....313's?! No thanks!
I like the styling of modern local trains on continental gauge too.
Give me a Stadler FLIRT over an Electrostar anyday.

It's a Siemens EuroDesiro
Siemens? Damn! Would never have guessed! Thanks for the info dude.
When DB start running over here give it a few years and other ToCs in the continent may start to follow suite, so don't think it won't happen. Chances are it will.

So will we see virgin trains and stagecoach bidding for european franchises?
but I wouldn't put that out of the books over the next 100 years.

I'm going to personally hold you to that very brave assumption.![]()
I thought there was already a Stobart Rail? Freight though?
Yes, a larger pool of bidders for franchises can only be a good thing!
However, Stadler is a manufacturer of regional EMUs/DMUs and I'd like to see them come up with a design for a unit for UK gauge.
That wouldn't be a problem for them, they build a lot of stock for the Swiss Narrow Gauge lines where each design will have a run of about 3 or 4 units.
For example this - http://www.stadlerrail.com/en/references/zentralbahn-7-teiler/ for the Zentralbahn to replace their hauled stock (currently modern locos ancient coaches) - They are buying four 7 car units each of which has panorama windows in the roof and a buffet counter! Dimension wise it isn't far off UK size!
Lol!
It does make sense though; considering they're trying to standardise rail signalling, why not standardise loading gauge too?
It would probably be cheaper to start from scratch if you wanted a Berne Gauge line in the UK. Rather than having to do a total rebuild of hundreds of Victorian structures with possession working.
