19:06 out of KGX sitting at Stevenage blocking fast up. Can't get the doors to lock. Delays building to add to the generally poor day on EC.

Never mind though, as the 19:33 Kings Cross to Leeds is carrying it's own passengers, plus the passengers off the cancelled 19:08 Kings Cross to Lincoln AND Grand Central passengers, the guard quite rightly has declassified First Class and has done a good job of customer service.

Phew, back home :)

Usual EC comedy of errors, seems the doors or B and C on the HST wouldn't open. We were all just getting off at Stevenage when, as if my magic, the doors opened. Must be an EMT stock 'feature'.

Anyhow, knowing standard would be 'mare, I "anticipated' declassification and got into FC on the Leeds service which had stopped for us. As did quite a few other pax...I don't suppose those who'd paid for FC were too pleased as any chance of complementaries were scuppered - I think they got the drinks trolley, mind.

Delay\Repays being handed out at PBO!

So HSTs do have interlock then? I was told by a Train Manager once that there was no interlock to prevent the train getting moved with the doors unlocked.

Just a few corrections, ;)

The Lincoln service arrived at Stevenage when the dispatcher noticed the doors on coaches B and C would not release - the train crew then spent a good 45 minutes fault finding before declaring the set a failure.

Regular announcements were given out by both the guard and station staff keeping passengers informed at all times.

I was with the guard when she made the on the spot decision to declassify First Class and made a announcement advising of this.

All passengers received a apology from the guard about the cancelled service and the overcrowding on the set.

Finally your sarcasm or attempt at sarcasm is not needed and from my view is akin to having a go at East Coast for no reason at all even though they were doing their best.

So HSTs do have interlock then? I was told by a Train Manager once that there was no interlock to prevent the train getting moved with the doors unlocked.

HSTs do indeed have door interlock as do most trains nowadays have with the exception of preserved railways/charters.

I never heard that announcement, who knows why.

My bad, I guess getting home 60+ mins late after having stood in the nippy night air on Stevenage platform makes me an unhappy chappy ;)

How is the interlock done when there is a locomotive?

From a dispatcher's view point, all the door interlock lights go out when interlock is gained therefore the HST must have interlock.

The orange lights on loco hauled stock used to be illuminated when the doors were unlocked, as far as I know this was not interlocked with the locomotive. Having all these lights go out would tell you the doors are locked though.

There is no interlock on HST or other slam door stock. The lights only indicate if the secondary door locking mechanism is working and locked or unlocked. There is no interface with the train brakes or power circuits stop the train or prevent it powering away if the doors are open or even just unlocked.

Firstly the guard did make the announcement, which brings me to the second question why automatically assume that First Class is going to be declassified why not wait to hear the official announcement rather then jumping the gun so to speak?

Secondly, you weren't the only person who was getting home a hour later then expected, yes there may have been a brisk breeze but everything was being done as quickly as possible to get people home.
