Where is Hylton street lads?
if you travel between north shields and meadowell as you come under the bridge after you leave north shields its on you left. Its not wired just plain track fenced off but connected to the main line.
Where is Hylton street lads?
The delivery is a delicate operation and if anyone is going to attend, they will need to follow strict safety advice from our staff."
Does that mean that non-operational staff will be allowed to attend, or just Nexus/DB/Media?
Just a point of clarification, could somebody confirm that these are the metrocars in Doncaster
4041
4072
4061
4046- this is the one I have not heard confirmed, but haven't seen for a while.
4046 is at Doncaster; the Metro told me a couple of months ago.
I wonder when the first train(s) does arrive, another one will be waiting to head down to Donny on the same low loader truck? Remember 4 trains are down there, one more to go and they will be the "prototypes" for the rest of the fleet.
Also IIRC for commissioning tests you'd need two Metrocars back, to make sure they can work together.
I have been told that we drivers will be getting a little refresher on the refurbed sets before they head out onto the system in service. However long that may take.
Christmas is coming soon!

1st one due back next week apparently.
When will it be known what day it arrives? I cannot wait to see it. its been a long time! Are there any photos available?
What website are you referring to? Is it nexus site? I was talking to some staff at Pallion station in Sunderland and they seem quite excited at the return of the first refurbished unit.

The first Metrocar to be refurbished as part of the Metro: all change modernisation programme will return to the North East on Friday, 7 October.
Metrocar 4041 'Harry Cowans' will be delivered by road to the Metro maintenance yard at Hylton Street, North Shields.
It will then go through several weeks of final commissioning before entering service paired with a second refurbished car in early November.
The car has been stripped down and rebuilt and bears a completely new livery for Metro as well as a new interior.
We understand that members of the public may wish to photograph or film this milestone in the Metro: all change programme.
Please be aware that Hylton Street is a residential area and the operation to deliver the Metrocar involves a large vehicle turning and reversing.
We ask that you respect our neighbours and follow closely any instructions from Metro staff. There will be NO ACCESS to the Hylton Street yard itself.
Delivery is expected between 11am and 1pm on Friday, 7 October.

From Nexus Discussuions
Huw Lewis of Nexus writes: I can confirm now that the first refurbished Metrocar, 4041 Harry Cowans, will be returning on Friday, 7 October. There are more details on our website. The low-loader is leaving Doncaster around 8am and the route into Newcastle should be A1 Western Bypass to Kenton Bar roundabout, then Cowgate, Central Motorway, Coast Road, Howdon Road, Hylton Street. It travels pretty fast, mind. We estimate arrival at Hylton Street any time from 11am onwards though it is impossible to be precise. If you are coming to watch please follow safety instructions.
Fingers crossed they didn't choose the off-white flooring that was trialed on one of the in-service sets!
Should be interesting to see what they've done with the thing...
Should be interesting though and I suppose its better late than never.
Lets hope the idiots that put their feet on the seats keep them on the floor where they belong. They get me so anoyed!!
Anyway; are they taking another Metro unit away on the same low loader when 4041 returns?
