Back to the real world, and a HS2 notice has been published about upcoming works at Old Oak Common, various dates over next few months

Long documents, so not quoting it, there is also link to a video

A new drone video of HS2 Old Oak Common station

Looks like quite a lot of the shell of the structure that will be main entrance hall is now going up, with the columns that carry the wide footbridge walkway across the first few platforms now clearly visible.

Some new track and electrification gantries at the western end are also visible (but this is isolated for now, as doesn't yet extend to platforms or across the as yet unbuilt bridges over Old Oak Common lane and Central Line

That team are really cracking on with that station and certainly dont look like they are the cause of the delayed opening

OOC station was presumably fairly early on the critical path for both HS2 and GWML works given how it relates to just about everything. Had to get the box dug out to launch the TBMs, had to launch the TBMs before you could lift in the platform segments, had to get the platforms complete before casting the mezzanine, when can the roof start going up, when can the GWML bridge over the end of the box, etc...

It's odd that it's there at all, given that the rest of the site is so cramped and every available square metre of land seems to be full of stuff. Here's hoping that track-work doesn't need any annual inspections in the meantime!

Wouldn't imagine so, as that would only apply once the trackwork has been handed over to Network Rail (which, until it's connected to the GWML proper, I rather doubt that it is).

Another new drone video of Old Oak Common station site and surrounding HS2 areas.

Appears the start of the 4 tracks that will carry the mainline through the surface platforms (the deviation whilst 4th island platform is built) have now been laid west of the yet to be constructed Central Line bridge

HS2 updates show lot of preparation work for the abutments of the bridges over Central line and Old Oak Common Lane this Autumn, but not sure when actual bridge decks will be installed.

Indeed but compared to Curzon St or Birmingham Interchange its making decent progress

But neither Curzon Street nor Birmingham Interchange are dependent on carefully planned sets of Christmas blocklades.

I have suspicion that Old Oak Common will be the bit which will be decisiove for any schedule of bringing HS2 to service.

OK I should have clarified that the HS2 part of the station has physical platforms now and had the Euston end been proceeding parallel you could have installed the railway systems without having the surface part of the station complete.

Agreed now that it is the only certain part of the South end of HS2 currently a functioning surface station is fundamental but that only needed to be the Elizabeth line initially but weve moved on beyond that strategy.

Can someone more knowledgeable than me let me know when a) Lizzie Line trains are routed through the station (I read this is without stopping originally, then stopping at a later date when the station is at least nearly finished b) same question for the GWR lines (appreciate they do share track with Lizzie) but will have different platforms). Presumably after a large block/closure over Xmas but well before (years before?) HS2 starts running.

I don’t know the revised date, but originally it was going to be fairly soon. I believe though that when the track changes are made the whole of the GWML, HEx and Elizabeth Line services will all pass through the new platforms, ie both the mains will also be temporarily slewed into into the northern part of the new station . I don’t think it’s ever been stated exactly which particular faces of the 3 newly completed islands will initially get tracks laid through them. With all four of the existing through tracks re-routed that leaves space for the fourth island to be built roughly over the existing Up Main and Down Relief.
