In the Rothesay County Championship Division 2 match, the two sides at the foot of the league table, Lancashire and Gloucestershire are playing each other.

I wonder if Lancashire are trying to emulate Pakistan with their batting, as after just 19 overs in their 1st innings, they were 43-6... .... before being all out for 134 in 35.5 overs.

UPDATE .. Just noticed that Gloucestershire fully entered into the spirit of poor batting and in their second innings, after 31 overs were 88-8.

In the Rothesay County Championship Division 1 match between Glamorgan and Warwickshire on Day 2, Glamorgan were desperate to forget their 1st innings total of 69 all out and had reached 42-1 in their 2nd innings, then totally and utterly succumbed once again and were all out for 65. Warwickshire won by an innings and 257 runs.

Barnard ... 6.1 - 1 - 13 - 5.

England 299-6 at lunch, a lead of 166. It looks like Pakistan are heading for another innings defeat?

Pakistan trail by 320 runs after the first innings, and Robinson then takes 2 wickets in the first over of Pakistan’s second innings. All over by lunchtime tomorrow!

Maybe not over so quickly. Play has been abandoned for the day, with Pakistan 52-2.

The Warks CEO will be very glad that they'll get a decent days play tomorrow. Madness that Saturday was planned as Day 4, against such weak opponents, especially in September.

They'll be delighted that it will all be over lunchtime, I'm sure.

Warwickshire's current county game (away to Glamorgan at Sophia Gardens) was all over on the second afternoon. Not that there appeared to be much ticket revenue anyway, based on what was visible of the stands on the YouTube channel.

I meant the play at the Test. At Edgbaston, the home of Warks. Indeed, the game now going to Day 4 is brilliant news for Warks, as they won't have to 100% refund Day 4 ticket holders, and will get to sell a decent amount of food and drink tomorrow.

A brilliant day for Pakistan, a shame for the series it's taken this late for it to become competitive.

Yet another rampant win for Blaze in the Women's One-Day Cup, over Essex.

Metro Bank Women's One-Day Cup, Queen's Park, Chesterfield

Essex 159 (45.4 overs): Scrivens 70; Gordon 3-25

The Blaze 162-1 (19.1 overs): S Bryce 70*, K Bryce 67*

Blaze go back to the top of the table, and straight through to the final next Saturday. Hampshire in second place will need to await the rest of the final round matches to see who they play in the eliminator next Wednesday.

Yes, I knew you were talking about the Test, I was just adding some details of another match that ended very short, sorry for not making that clear!

Though the Test has now gone on rather longer than I expected, and England's openers might have a nervy start this morning. These fourth innings chases can be tricky, but at least there's no time pressure.

Apparently the 5 dismissals Cox took behind the stumps in Pakistan’s second innings, equals the most taken by a stand-in keeper in a Test match.

Rothesay County Championship...Division 2

Day 1 of the Lancashire v Kent fixture started unusually well for Lancashire who batted first and had reached 81-0 in the 31st over. Then "normal service was resumed" batting-wise and suddenly it was 82-4 before grinding remorselessly onwards to 161 all out (58.5 overs)

Two notable bowling returns:-
Khalid ... 15.5 - 4 - 42 - 5
Milnes ......16 - 9 - 28 - 4

There was a powerful example of power hitting by an opener by Abhishek for India against Afghanistan in the Men's International 3rd ODI match.

He scored 108 off just 34 balls with 11 x 6 and 9 x 4 in a first-wicket stand of 142 in 9.5 overs

CSA 1st Class Series...Group A

One particular match score at the end of day 4 caught my eye and I wonder how much the batsmen are enjoying batting on that track.....

North West Dragons (1st innings) ... 642-4 declared (150 overs)
Rosier........211 with 2 x 6 and 20 x 4
de Swardt..138 not out with 2 x 6 and 5 x 4
Lubbe........107 not out with 1 x 6 and 8 x 4

Boland (1st innings) ... 596-9 (186 0vers)
Botha........213 not out with 2 x 6 and 22 x 4
Kapland.....123 with 17 x 4

Mark Wood has announced his retirement from international cricket:

England fast bowler Mark Wood has announced his retirement from international cricket with immediate effect.

The 36-year-old, who is one of the fastest bowlers to ever play for England, has been blighted by injuries throughout his career.

The Durham paceman only returned to action in the first Ashes Test in Perth in November after 15 months out with an elbow injury followed by knee surgery.

However, he bowled just 11 overs before suffering swelling in the same left knee and subsequently flew home for treatment. He has not played for England since.

I really enjoyed his commentary today on Sky's coverage of the England / Sri Lankas ODI.
Hope he becomes a regular.
He's been on TMS a few times too, though I think more as a pundit rather than lead commentator. I agree, he comes over very naturally as well as being very knowledgeable.

In fact he's on TMS now, for the start of today's ODI.

Men's One Day International Series...3rd OD!

A high-scoring fixture with three examples of notable batting, two of which were not out.

Sharma... 92 from 85 balls, with 3 x 6 and 10 x 4

Hope.....162 not out from 143 balls, with 3 x 6 and 12 x 4

How the mighty have fallen, Zak Crawley once Englands undropable Opener averaged 27.63 for Kent this season putting him 6th out of the 8 that played 10 or more matches for the County. England recall on the cards?

His career first-class batting average is just 31.62 in 151 matches, so yes, it has fallen this season but not by a great deal.

What he has failed to do this year is cash in at all, with no tons; his ability to go big when it was his day has been his trademark.

He had a terrible start to the season, but at the back end of the season he rediscovered some form, with some decent 50+ knocks, but no tons.

Great days play in Durban today. Oz won the toss and batted. They struggled to 4-84, recovered to 5-120 and finished early (bad light) @ 6-187, with Matt Renshaw 46 & Pat Cummins 33 the not out batsmen.
Wickets were shared 2 apiece between South Afrikas Marco Jansen, Wiaan Mulder & Anrich Nortje.
Curious talking point was opener Nic Maddinson playing his 1st Test Match for nearly 10 years. He faced 33 balls before he was out for a duck which apparently was the longest ever for an Aussie and the third worst in history.
Who'd of known that?
