On the South Devon Railway, Bishops Bridge Signal Box controlling the loop just north of Staverton was originally at Athelney, whilst at Totnes Riverside station, Ashburton Junction Signal Box came from Cradley Heath. The signal box at Crowcombe Heathfied station on the West Somerset Railway originated from Ebbw Vale Sidings.

The temporary platform at Cheedale - erected for a ramblers service to and from Edale, was dismantledcand re-erected at Matlock Riverside on Peak Rail, at the other end of the closed section of the Midland Railway's route through the Peak District via Bakewell.

Whilst on the subject of the SDR, the ground frame hut at Totnes came from Pilning Low Level. The tin shed on the platform from Bovey Tracey, the canopy from Axbridge and the lamp hut by the box came from Bridgewater.
Talking of canopies, the one on Yatton upside is ex Dauntsey.

I understand the original Alnwick passenger station, (used before the later terminus built at the same time as the Cornhill branch), was then used for many years as a goods station, and it was later transferred to Beamish and used as the goods station, at the west end of the short Rowley line..

One that hasn’t been mentioned yet is Kidderminster station on the Severn Valley.

That’s entirely created from scratch. Does anyone know where the various bits came from?

I know that Arley signal box is an LNWR box which came from Yorton on the Crewe-Shrewsbury line.

Thinking about this thread, the portability of buildings and other infrastructure recorded here is really quite remarkable. The train sets of our youth were more realistic than we realised! :)

Things like footbridges and signal boxes were often kits of standard parts, relatively easy to dismantle and re-erect somewhere else, plenty being made redundant on the main line, far easier than building one from scratch, and with more "heritage value" than a replica. So it's not surprising that many and probably most such structures on heritage railways are "second hand". Station buildings are more complicated, as they might have to be dismantled brick by brick.

The signal box at Leeming Bar on the Wensleydale came from North Wootton, near Kings Lynn

The title of the thread is

Former railway stations on closed beeching lines moved and rebuilt on current preserved heritage lines.

A fair number of the examples quoted are not from closed lines, but are just redundant assets moved to new sites

Sheffield Park on the Bluebell Railway:
  • The footbridge is from Lingfield (double width for race traffic - useful on busy days). It isn't in a great way and there's the posibility of building a replica in the original place when the signal box has been moved / decomissioned / demolished.
  • The signalbox on platform 2 as part of the museum is from Withyham.
