23-July, I posted a photo of this 1967 Beetle's front end - and it made another appearance earlier this evening.

This body variant is prior to 1967MY's larger, flatiron shaped rear lights. The 1967MY also differed in ibumpers, headlights and fuel filler-cap.
But... this one is badged - and DVLA-reg'd - as a 1500. I think the larger engine only appeared in the Beetle from autumn of 1967. However, the 1500cc block (longer stroke than the pre-1967 Beetle's OEM engine) was in VW's Type 3 from 1961.

So - is it a re-engined "FrankenBug"? Or a genuine 1500 that happened to be built with a remaining 1965-1966 era body?

See a lot of these Citroen vans in use as coffee huts, especially at railway stations.
Could be a static exhibit but difficult to tell as you don't need an MOT certificate to buy tax on a 40+ year old vehicle.

That 1971 Fiat is, I think, a stock 500 with a much newer non-OEM rear badge. The only Abarth-released version, was their 695 SS and it differed in its front end, its badge, flared wheel-arches, its Campagnolo wheels and raised rear engine-cover. Stil, it's a nice touch!

I've seen those Citroen vans as coffee outlets that are fully fakes - make up of fibre glass sheeting or some such. At least this looks like a real vehicle!

Anyone who wants to see one in moving metal… make a visit to St Albans on Saturdays or Wednesdays (market days) as one of the florists at the market uses one. When it departs each evening, in a cacophony of noise and unmitigated exhaust, it’s acceleration is 0-30: eventually, 0-60: never.

Love the 309 personally, i remember when my Dad got a brand new E reg 309 Style, it was the first new car i had ever known him to buy and it was cool to go to the dealer and get it. Pity he couldn't have been with me when i finally got to buy a new car myself.

It became the first car i ever drove (briefly).

That looks fantastic. I've always had a soft spot for the 309 and had the pleasure of hiring one (a diesel) some years ago. An acquaintance of mine had a 309GTi and I recall it being fairly quick - a slightly more "mature" car than the 205GTi (I'd have either if given the opportunity).

1974/N Morris Marina 1.3 in "gold-meets-rust".
1968/F Morris 1000 Traveller with a body condition akin to when the Marie Rose was lifted out of the Solent
1989/G Pug 205 GTI, the "proper" 1.9ltr engine!

Nicely complements the VW Golf Mk1 cabriolet seen at the same car park, a few weeks ago (link)

My mum had a jade green one of those and it was one of the first cars I drove back in 1991!

Oh the VW-badged Audi 50? Take a bow.
The Polo was a cheaper mid-1970s alternative and yet it was just as well-made and nearly as well-specced. No wonder it outsold the Audi 50.
I can recall seeing the Mk1 Polo on the road in early 1980s - but I've not seen one since.

I used to have a part time driving job which I did around my shift work for German and Swedish car parts (now GSF).

Unfortunately I wrote one of their Passat estates off when I was 21 years old by turning it onto its roof somewhere near Exmouth and skidding along the road on its roof rails like I was skiing…

Anyway. For punishment I was given their spare car to use for the rest of summer - An original X reg (1981) Volkswagen Derby (a mk1 Polo with a boot). In faded black.

No stereo, absolutely roasting hot because it was black and only 4 gears.

I was at the traffic lights in Torquay one afternoon and some girls in the car next to me were visibly laughing at it…

The 1500 single port Beetle engine was a very good engine and very reliable as well. My mate had one in a 1970 Bug and it ran really well.

I think the old single port engines were excellent.
