Is there a dress code for the OPC stages?
If it’s the interview/ MMI I recommend going in looking your best in smart attire but if it’s just tests then smart casual will suffice.

Those of you who sat stage 1 today, what did you make of it?
I'm not sure I did too well on TEA Occ (specifically the last bit) but everything else seemed fine

Just psychometric testing. You'll do four tests: group bourdon (dots), TRP 1b & 2 (memorising rules/procedures + cables and dials), and TEA Occ (tone counting + finding matching symbols on a list). No MMI

Yep. Invigilator was really chill. There's a lot of time at the beginning where you're just sat waiting and she's reading the test procedures but once you get going it flies by.
We were done by about 15:30 but she asked us to do another voluntary test (doesn't count for OPC) - I think they are trialling some new things and want people to try it.

Did you use any other practice materials other than the official OPC practice sheets?

Yes, I did 5 group bourdon tests printed from the tool you can find on this forum over the weekend and I also paid for this website - https://traindriverpsychometrics.co.uk/ (no affiliation). The website wasn't super helpful but I didn't mind the cost for a bit of practice/comfort!
Group bourdon is probably the only one you can practice for meaningfully. All the others differ slightly from the OPC practice material.
TEA Occ was the most difficult one for me, I think my concentration slipped just a little bit on the third part of the test where you have to count tones and the matching symbols.

Just got an email to say I successfully passed OPC stage 1!

Thank you! I thought the exact same. The last part, especially when the tones went into the double digits, fried my brain a little bit. Fingers crossed you hear soon - pleasantly surprised by how quick things are moving so far.

My issue with the TEA OCC was right at the very beginning. My pen needed a quick scribble because it wasn’t writing properly, so while I was trying to write down the number of tones clearly enough to read, the second question had already started. From that point on, I was on the back foot for the rest of the test.
I’m not complaining or making excuses because these things happen, but I’ll be very surprised if I end up passing Stage 1.
My last email was the update around mid August regarding the Arctic Shores assessment

Maybe they are waiting for a group of people to pass the OPC before offering you the group assessment stage.

That's my hope, perhaps with the amount of people they could be looking at a wider spread of test dates.

Looks like EMR uses the CBI just like Avanti West Coast. Does that mean people who’ve done the MMI will have to do this interview again? Avanti doesn’t recognise MMI, and I’ve heard it a lot more difficult than the MMI. Can anyone clear this up for me?

From the research I’ve done, my understanding is that even if you’ve already passed an MMI elsewhere, you would still need to do EMR’s own competency based Driver Manager Interview (CBI), as it’s a separate interview specific to EMR.
From what I’ve read from people who have sat both, the CBI can also be more probing than the MMI. It seems the interviewer can dig much deeper into your examples and keep asking follow up questions to establish exactly what you did, why you did it and what the outcome was…
Happy to be corrected though if anyone here has been through the current EMR process and knows differently.
