TfW Class 67+Mk4 sets: trip planning/experiences, diagram updates etc

Next month I'll be travelling from Durham to Aberystwyth on a standard class advance single (no splits) and one leg of the itinerary is the 14:30 Manchester Piccadilly to Shrewsbury. All being well this should be a Mk4 serving the lunch menu. So a few questions...

1) Can I upgrade to 1st onboard with a standard class advance single.
2) If so is the weekday upgrade price £16?
3) Would the 1h10 journey be long enough for me to avail myself of 2 courses?

I can answer question 1 for definite but only able to give my best guess for the other 2. You can definitely upgrade on board with a standard class advance single (or anytime/off peak return), ive done that myself.

As for the cost - I thought it was £21 on weekdays but maybe as its a shorter distance between Manchester and Shrewsbury than it to Cardiff it is a bit cheaper.

2 course between Manchester and Shrewsbury could be tight - ive only ever ordered off the menu once on a down journey from Manchester and I think my food came after Shrewsbury from memory but I was one of the last to be served (I always seem to end up sitting furthest away from the kitchen!) I know when ive done breakfast on the up journey its usually been brought to me after Hereford so around an hour into the journey. But some people did join at Shrewsbury and managed breakfast but it was very quiet on the train. The first part of the journey the customer host offers a drink and brings the menu around to look at. However if you explained im sure you would be able to be served faster. You are only on the train 1 hour and 10 minutes so one course would be more realistic but even that is optimistic IMO. You would be best checking with TFW directly on that I think.

It would depend I’d say - the crew have to ready the galley for service etc. However if you are near the buffet car and tell the host you’re only going as far as Shrewsbury I would be surprised if you hadn’t finished your meal with time to spare to digest.

It costs £16 Mon-Fri, £11 on weekends. The upgrade fee depends on how many arbitrary zones you’re crossing.

As for the 2-course meal… staff will need some time to get ready after leaving Manchester. Speak to them, you may well end up being prioritised if you’re leaving the train sooner.

GWR can manage to serve a 2-course meal in the time it takes between Bristol Parkway (last orders station) and London Paddington so it’s not too wild a request.

67025 currently broken and blocking platform 6 at Crewe on the 0709 to Cardiff. Its now 0740 and they're still waiting for 197108 to come to take over.

Is there any further information on the spare set that they were talking about bringing into service. While they look at refurbishing the existing ones.

Only looks like sets 1 and 4 are out today, I noticed one stopped at craven arms yesterday with issues. Are they struggling for locos again or is set related reliability struggling again?

Fortunately the 1452 ex Cardiff appears to be running today at the moment

2 was the intention at the start of service this morning, 1 is then planned to swap in at Crewe at 0910 and another at 1130.
The Craven Arms one had speedo issues, been a bit of an issue with the DVTs so plans are afoot to add in some redundancy at the next big work.
A couple of sets are out for repairs to roof damage, one is due to be returned today whilst the other is proving tricky to resolve due to its location.
