Sorry for disappearing, I ended up passing so thanks to anyone that helped or asked how I got on.

If anyone needs any help or anything like that, specially for your stage 2 as that’s what is the most fresh in my head send me a message and I will get back to you. I feel that I have a lot of useful bits of information that will put people at ease
Congrats on the pass mate

Hello everyone,

So I been researching and I’ve the the typical max prescription is +5 or -8 and says something along the lines of use the high power meridian.

Does anyone know for sure if this then means using sph and cyl numbers if you’ve astigmatism?

I’m under the limit adding both numbers but just anxious that in a decade it could be different story.

Also has anyone ever gone over the limit? If so what was the process as it seems it’s more of a case by case then a straight no to safety critical.

The requirements state "derogations may be authorised in exceptional cases and after having obtained the opinion of an eye specialist, the recognised doctor then takes the decision"
My understanding is that if you or an ophthalmologist can prove your eye-sight would not affect the safe operation of a train then you'll be fine.
Once you're in, the requirements become less stringent for your three-yearly medical as deterioration of eye-sight is a normal part of ageing.

Hello everyone,

I sat my psychometrics for a train driver for FRL and passed everything but unfortunately fell short at the MMI. Gutted as I know this counts as a life and will have to wait a year, I currently work within Southeastern and heard from a few drivers that the MMI there is a lot more relaxed but was confused as mine at the OPC was very cold, and i gauged nothing at all from the guy interviewing me.

Oh well, guess we just get the feedback, practice hard nearer the time and go again perhaps with Southeastern this time!

There has been a huge increase in people failing the MMI in the past year or so. I’m not sure what’s happening. I can only assume they’ve changed the marking criteria but the problem is nobody knows the what that criteria is….

I’m sorry you didn’t make it pass MMI. I can vouch for southeastern’s MMI being relaxed. You did well to get to the MMI though. My little research told me to stay away from LNER, AWC, FRL and EL as I would be risking my SE pass should I fail anything up to the MMI stage.

You’ve gained the experience getting up to the MMI so make your next attempt count. All the best moving forward bud.

hello, I have been advised I need to redo TRP2 as although I passed it I have not passed it to the TOCs standard. Just to confirm is this the cables and dials test?

Hey mate, I am due to have my stage 2 assessment (the MMI) in couple of weeks, can you give me some tips on how to go about the interview? I have already passed the depot interview and they had told me that the MMI is easier but I'm not sure what to think of it. I've already started preparing for the 6 questions I have found on the forum. If you don't mind, I would really appreciate some extra tips.

Also are the 6 questions posted on this forum still valid or have they changed?

I appreciate your help

The questions are still the same

I would recommend that you make sure that you are able to talk about your answers a lot in detail if necessary.

Whenever you answer the questions make sure you relate it to train driving however it is indicated. The examiners will ask you a lot of questions but it’s not to catch you out but rather to get the best answers out of you, try to read between the lines and understand what they are asking for.

Stay composed and don’t rush your speech to allow yourself time to think. It is important that you articulate yourself correctly and ideally use the star method.

All the questions have specific requirements for their answers but I’m not fully aware of them. An example of this would be that for the perseverance question it has to be something you done for a minimum of 2 weeks

If you can’t think of scenarios you will have to make up hypotheticals. This doesn’t mean that you fail as they will ask you for some regardless

I have my DMI in a few days

Can anyone give me information on how I can prepare myself?
I had mine and I would recommend learning the TPWS and pretty much recite it to them during the interview. I would also recommend learning routes that pass through the depo you're applying for as well as what traction they use and all the operating trains names.

I would also read up on day in the life of a train driver (plenty can be found on this forum) and general information on Southeastern (I just stated the facts such as number of employees, how many journeys they do, how many miles of track they cover etc) it would also be good if you can add any initiatives that Southeastern was part of in terms of any station improvements etc or search up on any awards they may have won recently.

they have also asked me about ways of working / core values on which I did not read up much and was caught out so might be worth reading up on that too.

Definitely prepare some answers for the questions from the core questions bank they sent out as 2 or 3 may pop up during the interview.

I think generally they have asked me about the information that was pretty much sent out to me when I received the invitation for the interview.

Good luck with your interview

Hi everyone,

Just wanted some advice, I have my stage 1 OPC for GTR tomorrow in watford.

I have been practicing (maybe over practicing!) can anyone confirm what tests will definitely done on your stage 1? (as email was unclear and there's part 1,2 and 3) It's for 4 hours.. And paper tests I believe.

Also, does anyone know the times or scores to aim for?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply, the paper tests as in the TEACC, Bourdon? Am I missing other paper tests?

So there's no interview? Attention test? No 2 hand test?

Group Bourdon, TRP1&2, TEA-OCC, DFFT

No interview, no attention test, no 2 hand coordination. They’re day 2.
