Yeah, it's nothing you've done. Every search issued checks for PlusBus in order to be able to offer it to you at the Ticket Information step - even if you have no interest whatsoever in travelling on buses. On this particular flow, I'm told child PlusBus pricing is misconfigured.

Clearly it shouldn't fail in the way it is failing (which prevents any retail whatsoever), but the industry data also needs to get fixed so that people who do want PlusBus can buy it with a FAM Railcard.

Is there something in the algorithm that if you switch from 1st to standard on a train, you have to change?

With show only First tickets filter, the above itinerary is offered with a Anytime Day Single (1st) Aberdeen-Stonehaven and another Stonehaven-Dundee, before a Dundee-Edinburgh Anytime Day Single

Such itinerary on its face should be valid for the whole journey on train 1

Please can you share which date you're searching for, so we can take a look?

Oct 25th

The direct train is shown but with a £20 more expensive first class all the way by an additional split in Leuchars

As far as I can see, it's simply being included because it results in a cheaper first class set of tickets, albeit because some of the journey isn't in first class!

The system won't simply switch classes for fun, but rather because it's found an itinerary where there is no first class accomodation and switching down to standard for that part of the journey works out cheaper. Then the journey and tickets end up included because they present a value benefit over the faster, direct journey.

But if you're looking for first class, it's not going to randomly switch you to standard on a train which has first class unless there was no availability for a mandatory reservation leg.
