On the afternoon of August 11, 2026, Norfolk Southern manifest freight train 33A, heading westbound, derailed on Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania. This was caught live on the Virtual Railfan YouTube stream:
It sounds like the train goes into emergency braking around the 5 minute mark and the first sounds of derailment are around 5:30.
As an aside, are railways in the USA unsafe, or are UK railways unusually safe as we don't seem to have anything close to the number of accidents and incidents as they do, even accounting for relative size of the networks?
