At least they have 20 mins to turn around at each end but will be interesting to see it in practice. As with the 20 in Bath you always seem to lose time if the driver has not got their foot to the ground. I think Imperial Park to Temple Meads in 11 mins might be the craziest part. I mean thats got to be a mistake right. Google Maps is telling me 20 mins in a car. Also stopping at the Ambury in Bath? Very strange
The timings really miss the point. If I'm waiting for a bus in Tunley which is 15 mins late, getting cold and wet, am I bothered that the bus has 20 mins layover?

Essentially, they're saving 24 minutes on various sections excluding the High Littleton to Bishop Sutton section which I reckon is also lacking at least 5 mins too.

Hardly a "massive downgrade" though. It loses nothing M-F, the 0557 on a Sat (plus two early morning journeys within Yate). It's only on a Sunday and arguably reflects the usage especially in the early morning.

The 100 is a mental as I thought it would be (and as @Citistar suspected). To illustrate that:

  • When CT Coaches did the 179, it was 40 mins from High Littleton to Bath but Big Lemon will do it in 31 mins.
  • X91 takes 21 mins from Imperial Park to Temple Meads - it's 11 mins on the 100.
  • Chew to Imperial Park is 23 on X91 - it's 18 on the 100.
  • High Littleton to Bishop Sutton isn't currently covered but it's 19 mins on 100 compared to 18 in a car!!
Eurocoaches not advertising the fares isn't going to massively impact usage on the 525, but unrealistic running times on the 100 will.
I wonder if they are relying on the fact that inbound journeys are set down only & call on request only at Imperial Park (to Bristol) / Odd Down (to Bath) and all subsequent stops except the termini.

The bit in to Bristol makes some sense as you can miss parts of that out and save some time. The Bath end, less so. It will only have been registered this way to please WECA that it won't represent a commercial threat to anything else.

For what it's worth, i put together a timetable for another operator's bid on the service. I made it a 112-120 minute journey end to end off peak using five vehicles with reasonable layovers.

If they’re anticipating that they’ll halve the time between IP and Temple Meads compared with their existing P1/X91 by not picking up at a few stops… well that’s optimistic.

Same with High Littleton to Odd Down - still 10 mins quicker than the erstwhile 179 on the same route, same stops.

Also worth noting that since the 179 disappeared, Timsbury has gained some quite draconian traffic calming and an awful lot of 20mph zoning that stretches from Bloomfield Park across to the other side of Meadgate.

I never had much call to go via Timsbury then but do now. It’s a right hassle getting through esp near the Coop.

Does anyone know if there are any plans to replace or refurbish the M1-M4 Metrobuses? I assume the route is too long and/or the lack of regen opportunity on the M32 for the M1/3/4 to have been considered for the BYD electric buses that arrived en-masse?
As will be evident, I know little about buses, but I do highly rate the M1/3/4 which I have been using regularly since inception.

Small correction in that the electric buses that arrived en-mass are Yutong and not BYD.

You’d be bothered if it hadn’t and that 15 minutes was imported from the previous run because of a 2 minute turnaround time.

New timetable and route map. Presumably the 25 will operate out of Hengrove using Yutong U11DDs.
Today I saw one of these going inbound along City Road showing 'Driver Training' and just after that a scruffy Eurocoaches minibus on the current 25 service, which I later caught coming back.

I’m presuming the August 30 Changes look a bit like this:

1/2/2a rerouted. Now stop at Fairfax Street towards South Bristol, and go via Bond Street towards Cribbs Causeway.

3/4 will now terminate on Nelson Street and start on Rupert Street.

5 will call at Lower Castle Street instead of on the Horsefair and Penn Street. Now runs term time only.

6/7/41/42/43/N43/44/45 will call at Lower Castle Street instead of on the Horsefair and Penn Street.

8 will be extended round a new loop to terminate at UoBr Temple Quarter Campus - It will start at temple meads and come out on Avon street. 8 will no longer serve the Horsefair and Penn Street.

16/17/18 tbc

19 tbc

24/25 will be incorporated into each other but tbc how

36 no change

39/X39 tbc

46-50 looking like no change

70 no change

72 new routing towards UWE via Broad Quay

73/74/75/76 no change

77 extended to Gainsborough Square and no longer calls into Clifton Village. Runs term time only.

172 tbc

374/375/376/376a rerouted via Broad Quay

SGL routes tbc

Metrobus also tbc

I suppose the increase in frequency of the 8 will cover the 5 and 77 moving to term time only, but interesting to see what happens in St Anne's if the 5 does go term time...

Broad Quay is going to be rammed!

Routing all buses away from Broadmead so they can make it into one long cycle lane.

Update:

Just found out the 16 is to serve Avon Street both ways, instead of the dings.

Interestingly, (according to bustimes) it looks as though the 16 inbound will continue to use Avon St, New Kingsley Rd, Midland Rd, Old Market to Old Market Rbt, but the 8 is shown as using the full length of Avon St, then right onto Temple Way to continue to serve stop M2 outside the back of Pip'n'Jay to reach Old Market Rbt. Is that right turn even possible?

Marlborough Street has not been updated on BODS yet which is why the 16 is yet to be updated. The 8 and 16 will both use a new bus exclusive junction to turn towards Old Market from Avon Street.

It's being done over the summer hence why Avon Street is being closed for a while until September 1st.
