First GBR Anglia trains unveiled as Greater Anglia and c2c merge their fleets

You could also start seeing Greater Anglia’s Class 720/1 and 720/5 trains on the c2c network after rail approvals were recently granted

That's a suprise, a pleasant one! Nice to see a bit of joined up thinking. I wonder if this will spread to say SN & SE 377s, especially as they are both maintained out of Selhurst Depot

I wonder if the ex-GA Class 720/1s and /5s being used on c2c is mentioned because GA’s spare Class 720s will enable more Class 357s to go off for re-paint into the GBR livery more quickly? Painting presumably takes longer than vinyling, and the GBR livery is more complex than the magenta c2c livery, so presumably will take longer to paint than the magenta c2c livery initially planned for these units would have taken.

Unfortunately not as GBR appear to be naming them as separate entities of GBR Southern and GBR Southeastern.

According to Ian Visits, it's painted, which probably explains why the dark blue looks richer on the 357 (photo from the linked article).

I'd certainly agree that the 357 is paint, as there is no join where the vinyl sheets would meet as can be seen on the 720 below the cab window.

- Two differing shades of blue, can't be that hard to get a vinyl manufacturer to match a paint colour or vice versa

To be fair, it's a very similar blue and 99% of people aren't going to notice and even less will care.

When BR relented about regional colours in the 1950s, the Southern went crazy painting everything they could back into green, I think.

They did indeed, but as I mentioned, repainting coaches was a simple affair back in those days, a paint pot or two, some brushes and a roller and no warranties to worry about!

The 357 looks fairly decent, but I'd be curious to see how this livery would look on a 745/755 when they get their repaint.

I think GBR will work quite well on the Flirts, the cab ends are very pointed so lend themselves quite well to this livery.

Just seen a photo on Facebook of the cab of 720501, plenty of GA white still visible where the panels meet and also where the vinyl sheet joins under the cab window, it just screams quality.

If the Greater Anglia livery is anything to go by, I agree. But for more streamlined stock like the Pendolinos or IET fleet I can't see it landing as well.

Yeah, I get where you're coming from, the sharp angles of the GBR livery could clash with the curved fronts of the IETs/390s.

When the station signage and branding becomes more commonplace, more stock has been rebranded and the new branding has become more established online and in publicity materials etc, it’s all going to look rather smart.

I’ve just noticed the magenta hand-rail on the inside of the cab of the Class 357 - what colour will the hand-rails for the GBR livery eventually be? I guess we might have to wait for the first new-build stock in the livery to see.

Isn't that the case for most people though, they tend to only see trains of the same or a couple of TOCs, unless they regularly use a big terminus or interchange station.

Freight will keep it's own liveries plus it'll take years to roll out the full GBR i suspect.

I'd love to see a side-on of that to see what a three-car unit with the arrows only on the ends would look like. To be honest I think I would be happy with it if they did that, the only other major thing I don't like about it is use of the utilitarian Rail Alphabet 2/3 font in the logotype, which just looks naff - it's a utilitarian font for signage etc, not for logos. (Oddly Helvetica, another utilitarian font, works OK for SBB's logotype though - not quite sure why I see it differently here but I do - I think it might be because it's quite a flashy, dynamic livery but with a boring logotype, whereas SBB's livery is utilitarian and basic to go with the font?)

It really does suit boxy EMUs with doors at thirds well.

No, you can't change the formation of EMUs generally. You can shuffle Sprinter era DMU vehicles around (including burying cabs inside a formation), but most are 2 car so it doesn't matter.

Ai here, the 701 version of the GBR livery doesnt look too bad on the Pendo.
