Just been at York ticket office, they're saying 2 steam locos running light engine back to their base. Left York earlier today, about 5 a teleconference finished - bi directional working in place in the area of the fires (reportedly a string of fires along the route). Expecting a group of services southbound at around 6.

Just nipped into Kings Cross and it's absolute chaos - people everywhere with all EC services just showing as 'Delayed'. All tickets to Stevenage and P'boro are being passed on FCC.

(Anyone reading this at KGX - there is a Leeds service from St Pancras at 1930 - don't know what the situation is with ticket acceptance on EMT, but I'd hope we'd be on 'any reasonable route' with every EC service seemingly suspended. I am currently sitting in the bar at the Betjaman Arms at St Pancras if anyone wants to say hi by the way :P )

Currently parked up along side us at Newark. The guard even told us to look out of the window on the right to see the cause of our delay. Apparently talking to a spotter on my ciggie break, it's awaiting a diesel to rescue it .. Dam train grr

UK Steam suggests this is a positioning move from York to Southall via the ECML and NLL for 70013 Oliver Cromwell and 30777 Sir Lamiel.

Elsewhere it reports that 46201 Princess Elizabeth has derailed today at Scarborough on the Flyer from Crewe, with the return train diesel hauled.

Just reporting what the web site says.
Not a good day for kettles.

Not sure if this is the recovered steam train, but according to East Coast's site, a further problem has emerged at Peterborough (a broken down train) - am VERY glad I dont live on the East Coast route!

Train services at Peterborough are being disrupted due to a broken down train.Delays can be expected. Only north-bound train services are affected by this problem.

Looking at the arrivals board at Kings Cross (both real and on the NR website), services are slowly beginning to arrive, but with upwards of 2hr delays. I personally would see if your relatives would be happy travelling tomorrow if they havent already started their journey - EC will accept tickets for today I'm sure (I havent yet looked for an official source for this though, will do so in a few mins )

It certainly wasn't being diesel hauled when it left Scarborough albeit an hour late.
Apparently the derailment happened on, or more accurately, just off the turntable and appears to have been easy to get back on.
A diesel was despatched from Carnforth at about 16:00 to minimise delay if it was needed. Situation handled very well as far as I can see.

Just took a look at the FCC website. Trains that would start at Peterborough are now starting from Huntingdon and trains to Peterborough are terminating at Huntingdon. No information on alternatives for Peterboro bound passengers.

My missus has just arrived at Pboro after sitting north of the station for 30 minutes. Over two hours after the train should have arrived at the Cross.

Ban steam locos from trunk routes now. Just do it. No hesitation.

19:03 out of KGX to LDS just arrived at PBO. Complete bedlam. It wasn't until near PBO they announced this train was making an additional stop to connect to a bus service to Lincoln. Maybe no too clever for peeps left waiting to hear about the cancelled 19:06 to Lincoln!

EC handling was a shambles. At KGX they were trying to get everyone on via Coach M so not surprisingly this gridlocked. I was lucky to get a seat in FC, it was standing room and no announcement to move through as K and L were less rammed - BTW there was no announcement of de-restricting.

One chav familee plonked themselves in FC and the three kiddies, wired on Coke, shouted the whole journey and played PSP and watched DVD cartoons on the speakers, no headphones. Their mother smiled all the time while everyone else had ideas of chucking them out the window.

The peeps opposite me said they had been expecting to get the 16-something to LDS.

While I was on the concourse at KGX, EC announced that the 19:30 Edinburgh was going to be the last train tonight to Scotland!

I hardly need say, that despite being booked on 1st Advance (all be it for the cancelled 19:06 to Lincoln) I received no complimentaries on the 19:03

I'll be sticking Delay\Repay in as a matter of principle.

Steam trains on the ECML? ****ing mental! We don't tolerate Stanley Steamers chuffing around the M25 at 10mph - they are in a museum or at Goodwood. What a sick joke for everyone who's travel plans have been wrecked.

Email Network Rail to demand they ban these 'excursions'.

It was not a tour but rather a positioning move for 98577 and 98713 from the NRM to the WCRC depot at Southall - the steam loco on the rear of the formation was dumping ash everywhere as a part of the loco which should be closed wasn't.

Before the formation reached Newark, it was running over 90 minutes earlier.

Certainly not a good day for the ECML.

Yes. I've heard this from somewhere else as well now, thanks. So it was a LE movement. Even more ridiculous than a tour wrecking the afternoon of hundreds of thousands of people and causing millions of pounds worth of disruption.
