It would be lovely to have a railway with no influence from the government, but at the end of the day the railways eat up a sizable wad of cash every year. If the government was some say in how the railways are wrong I’d argue there isn’t much way anyone can say no, unless GBR can somehow remove the need for subsidy.This comes back to my whole beef with it. The government shouldn't have any role on the future branding of GBR. It should be up to GBR and its senior team when it gets up and running.
Imagine back in 1986 the Department of Transport telling Chris Green what the livery and branding for services in London and SE should be.
If all they want is to determine how the railway they pay for looks I think we should count ourselves lucky.
