Would anyone happen to have any update on the current situation with 175010 down in Penzance?

Whether it is being worked on so it can enter service soon, or if it is just there for crew familiarisation still?
I don't have any insider info but as an educated guess, I would suspect it's likely still being worked on to be in a serviceable condition for both passenger use and also Penzance driver/guard training. As it came in a very poor condition from Ely, a lot of work has been required to get it functional. I'd still suspect it'll be a while yet for 010 to come out to play.

Thanks for the update. Units returned to depot with brakes allegations usually have to have some lengthy testing and you wouldn`t expect to see them back out until at the earliest the next day.
Possibly a simple error or crew un familiarisation of unit ?

It was a detached brake hose.

5 hour gap. Can't be right?
Oh it can! These things are causing huge inconvenience and extended delays - the performance at Newquay and Penzance during half term was terrible, not a great advertisement for the railway in general or the 'Mid Cornwall Metro' in particular!

Brakes seem to be one of the most common recurring faults.

Thanks. Brake hoses have been known to detach occasionally but usually only after some previous maintenance intervention ( Wolverton ? ) at the "free nut" end if the combination of the sealing O ring and washers is not in the correct order and orientation.

Next Wednesday should be 175 testing to Paignton, likely gauge clearance and also the first unit to head to Exeter TMD and Goodrington Sidings.
Let's hope it's a 3 car.

Being in Paignton I thought I have a look. There must be two trains . One arriving 0743 platform 2 and departing 0750. Another arriving 0810 platform 1 going down the sidings and reversing and leaving platform 2 at 0826.

Seems to be. The first one leaves Exeter for Paignton at 0650 and the second leaves for the depot 2 minutes later until it comes back out to also head to Paignton. Would also suggest 3E05 from Laira that morning will be a triple set. Two for the tests and one for 2C05

Believe it should be another pair doing that if everything goes to plan.

I also live not too far away from where it is going, so hopefully might be able to get out and see it.

This farce could have been avoided if they did some fault free running before binning the Castle sets.
Not parking them in the open for several years with rain leaking in might have been a good idea too. It seemed obvious to everyone except DfT that something would be needed to replace the HSTs, and that 175s were the better of the two options. Despite which nothing was done to keep them serviceable. The costs of fixing them now will probably exceed the "saving" on maintenance in storage.

When are the last 2-3 sets in Ely likely to leave the site? There haven't been any 175 drags from there for a while, and there must be space at Wolverton as a couple of units have since left there for Laira.

Let's hope it goes well as it will probably be the 5 car formation to replace the four car 150. It's also the diagram that goes to Axminster albeit reduced to 2 car at Exeter.

2E38>3Z20 parked up behind 2M77 802022 in platform 6 (10 cars in all). Been a really good run by the 175112 from Penzance picking up 175001 at Plymouth.

I've been keeping an eye on their performance the past 2 weeks, today has been the best day we've seen since the timetable change with 0 cancellations and very minimal delays. Lets hope it stays consistent!

A few photos of 001+112 from the trip to Barnstaple tonight.

I wasn't sure if the full 5 car formation would fit on the section of the platform that is available to the public, but they did (just).

Also overhead one of the staff members that was on the train saying that they are ok to run on the line.

They're ok to run on the line, but still not an awful lot of Exeter drivers sign them yet.

I think that was the initial plan to tackle overcrowding during peak hours and evening services. Quite shocking how packed it can get with just 2 or 3 car Class 158!

Yes, but the Castle set removal date was fixed and the DfT approval for the 175s took much longer than hoped for.

More progress made and without any issues too :)

It's noticeable that the dates for removal of stock are fixed and must be adhered to, while the dates for introduction of stock can slip for months or years without anyone (person or organisation) being much bothered, and certainly not penalised for their failure. No doubt GBR will improve on this :s

I suppose in part it depends what the fixed dates are, in this case it was overhaul cycles of the Castle HSTs.

Weirdly there's been two paths given for next Tuesday from Wolverton, this one is going back to Landore in Swansea! Are they returning the unit to Wales on a road trip?

Here's the other one that makes more sense, a move to Laira:

Yet another example of the lack of a joined-up railway causing needless and wholly avoidable problems.

A loco move from Derby to Ely has appeared for this Tuesday, so there maybe a 175 drag ahead. Given there are only two full units left there (ignoring 008), these might be able to leave on the same drag.

I think the moves from Ely must be done with 2 locos and a pair of barrier wagons; this is likely a loco headed up to shunt stock at Ely. Might be an indication of an imminent move in coming weeks, though.
