As the GWR milk vans were “Siphons”, does this (new to me) Class 37s/EE type 3s nickname “Syphon” have another derivation?

One story is that it was some sort of rhyming slang thing:
Siphon G - EE Type 3
Somewhere over the years the "i" became a "y".
The alternative nicknames of Growler and Tractor can be understood by listening to a 37.
Tractor was used in a derogatory fashion by some 27 bashers in Scotland:

I was “informed” back in the 1980s that it was because they (vaguely) resembled class 40s but with the whistling syphoned out.
I’m sure that other “explanations” are available!!

For anyone who may be unaware the KWVR have recently purchased the former Royal Oak Pub, opposite Haworth Station and it reopens this week.
If the offer is as good as the former Parcel Office cafe at Keighley it should do well.

That will please the Fish & Chip shop owner next door as i was talking to him last year and he said his takings were down since the pub closed

The BLS Gen page is showing that a Freightliner class 70 may be putting in an appearance at this year’s KWVR Diesel Gala.
Looking at the WNXX Traction Log, it seems that the only FL 70s not to have worked passenger trains are 70006/7/9/13/18.
Of these, 47286Dan’s lists on this forum seem to suggest that only the first three locos noted above are in service. Are 70013 and 70018 long-term stored?
I realise of course that a loco which hasn’t worked before isn’t guaranteed, but it would certainly be nice.

Freightliner don’t have any Class 70s. Presumably they mean Heavy Haul Rail?
Yes, 70013/018 are long term stored.

Does anyone know what the chances are of 55009 being on two engines for some of the diesel gala? Would be a shame if it wasn’t for at least some of the uphill Keighley to Oxenhope runs.

Sounds the same as the steam gala- one early morning demonstration freight train per day.
Correct. From limited experience the previous offer wasn't fully subscribed, and ties up staff etc.

It appears that it will be SRPS's coaches as the air braked set, rather than the usual West Coast Railways Mk1s. I am unsure what my opinion on this is!

Just looking at the roster for this weekend and there are 2 steam loco's and 1 diesel out on the Sunday, does anyone know why the 3rd loco is required when it's normally 2 please? It's good to see the Standard 4 back though.

Isn't it just a normal summer blue timetable? When the second set is steam, the first few runs are diesel hauled?

Only the first round trip should be diesel, there will then normally be a loco-swap to steam.
