The 175s have Voith T211 2-speed/2-stage hydraulic transmissions, like 15x/16x/170s/171s. With the 175s having final drives geared for 100mph (like 168s/170s/171s), I don't think they change up until about 65-70mph.
I know, but you know what I mean175s don`t have a gearchange as such although it sounds like it does. Engine torque is transmitted through the converter into the gearbox up to a speed of 60mph and at this point the Lock up clutch is engaged and it`s this Lock up clutch activation that makes it sound like a gear change.

What do you mean?I see it's already a farce at Saltash.....
Looks like 175003 has broken down. What do you mean?
This service was cancelled between Saltash and Penzance due to a problem with the train (M8).
This service was cancelled between Saltash and Par due to a problem with the train (M8).
and I`m quite surprised with the number of problems that they have encountered and I suppose that could partially be down to the length of storage ?Is there a common reason behind the multitude of failures we're seeing?
003 was engine issuesIt`s pretty obvious that I have a little bit of interest in the fortunes of 175s in their new home and I would like to see them succeedand I`m quite surprised with the number of problems that they have encountered and I suppose that could partially be down to the length of storage ?
The start of today wasn`t great by the looks of it with RTT reporting 003 failing due to a problem with the train and 112 with a safety system fault.
Does anyone have any further information of the 2 train faults or which safety system was at fault ?
003 was engine issues
112 was TMS issues (similar to what we saw back along with this unit in Penzance)
I think it's a combination of the period of time in storage/not being used regularly and crew familiarisation. Is there a common reason behind the multitude of failures we're seeing?
Let’s hope the same doesn’t happen to the 350s when they become the next barn find fleet.I think it's a combination of the period of time in storage/not being used regularly and crew familiarisation.
I understand that a 175 only has one compressor, so if that engine fails it’s game over.Did 003 have both cars engine issues as 2 car 175s will happily run on 1 engine albeit lose some time
The good engine can cross feed to keep the compressor and other important systems going on the other vehicle.I understand that a 175 only has one compressor, so if that engine fails it’s game over.
Porterbrook has been busy electrifying Long Marston so they should be ok. On a side note I still find it crazy that there’s a small fleet of ex HEX 360s parked up in South Wales.Let’s hope the same doesn’t happen to the 350s when they become the next barn find fleet.

They can't have a second 175 on the Newquay, something to do with some crews not signing them (yet)Looking at the branch service in Devon and Cornwall to see if any effect by the 175s. 175006 operating successfully as the extra train to Newquay. Two shortforms on Paignton Exmouth; Barnstaple has a 166217 on the busy train instead of two 150 units. 13/17 150s operating including two units to St Ives. Only 4 turbos operating. Perhaps they need a second 175 on the Newquay branch.
175114 and 175007 working services HSTs did (I might have missed another one). Not a great return on 13 trains at Laira although some may have been cannibalised.
