Both 1S72 and 1H69 have come to a stop near Hemel Hempstead station, with 9S80 just behind, and the train manager aboard 1H69 (which I am onboard) has reported that there is an issue with power causing the delays on the WCML, on the Down Fast Line at least.

Taken from Avanti twitter, OHL damage
Due to damage to the overhead electric wires between Watford Junction and Milton Keynes Central, some lines are blocked.

Trains running through these stations may be delayed or cancelled.

Update aboard 1H69, we have been notified that we are turning around to go to Euston, as both our current and adjacent lines are blocked.
Not surprised, there's already a queue of at least 11 trains on the Down Slow looking at the live maps (was 13 a few minutes ago).

So this is why the 1446 LNWR Euston to Crewe has sat at Kings Langley for over an hour and I'm waiting for a bus home from work...

As this happened at around 14:45, I question why Network Rail have happily allowed trains leave Euston up until around 16:07 (late 15:46 departure) and join the queue of trains in the area.
Yes I know this might free up platforms at Euston, but presumably that won't be an issue soon seeing Euston bound (excluding Watford local services) trains are now stuck the other side of Borne End.

Both slow lines are open and trains are passing the area, albeit if slowly.

Fair enough thank you for that, I guess trains stuck on the fast lines are in process of being shunted when possible.
Either returned to Euston to be cancelled, or moved south to a suitable place where they will be able to cross to the slow lines to then continue there journey north.

As already mentioned, wrong-road moves back towards Watford junction. However it's very slow as they can only do one train at a time, the driver must go slowly to stop in case of obstruction, and the rules may (not sure!) stop trains crossing at Watford South Junction while the move takes place.

1U39 was moved earlier, looks like 9S80 is moving now.

Onboard 1H69, it's been proposed that we either terminate at Euston and return north via the slow lines, or terminate at Apsley and board a northbound train there.

Perhaps they had reason to expect that the timescale for enabling the movement of down traffic through the locus was such as to make this strategy less delaying for the majority of users on these and other trains? I always assume that there may be a bigger picture known to industry professionals than the one I can see on a track diagram from the comfort of my computer chair at home with no practical exposure to real world rail operations.

Yes I agree. When I made my comment about them letting trains leave London I was under the impression all lines were blocked, which isn't the case.

Is there a further problem on the WCML at the moment? 1B47 14:47 Birmingham New Street to London Euston seems to have been sat at Wembley Central since about 17:05 (now 17:30 as I post this).

Likely because Euston is full. However I've just seen plenty of departures getting cancelled and headcodes updated with TBA.

Well spotted.

Lineside fire near Tring. All lines blocked with departures from Euston suspended.
Oh no! WCML doing disruption in it's on "special" way.

I've made plenty of comments on here criticizing the WCML and it's questionable fragility, but I have to say the last few weeks haven't been too bad at all in fairness, back to business as usual today it seems! :D

Id imagine this is related to the OHLE incident? That would be a coincidence if not
No it’s not. Was a trough smoking on the up slow north of tring.

A freight caused carnage after being crossed over from the fast to slow at bourne end. Sat there best part of an hour waiting for him to move. If that hadn’t have happened, it wouldn’t have been as bad.

Must be a good reason why the freight didn't move for so long surely?
