It’s looking somewhat tired and faded now, with a few patches, additional rivets and bodge patches on it. To be fair its paint has been looking somewhat tired for the last few years now, and its condition isn’t really in line with LSLs rather high standards.

Round the Bend

Still in Great Western Trains ‘merlin’ livery, 47830 leans into the canted curve at Crofton on the ‘Berks & Hants’ line with the 11.40 Penzance to Paddington First Great Western service on 10 July, 1999. The overbridge in this photo has since been removed.

WNXX news pages are reporting that they believe it is planned to stay in the same green livery it has now. It will just look a bit shinier in a new coat :D

I’ve heard rumour that the English riviera express will feature 45118 from Crewe to Taunton? Does anyone know anything?

Very possible as they tend to mix the diesel locos up. D213 was on a Saphos tour earlier this week. Unfortunately though, you will never find out until the day (unless someone knows someone within LSL I guess) as they don't advertise what diesels will be used on these tours

It’s done in advance I’m pretty sure, hence it not being so accurate. The site is good for seeing what tours are running when, not so good for learning what will haul them

It has already done one railtour in September 2023 - "The St Tudno Wanderer Tour" from Wilmslow to Llandudno. It's a shame it's not been used since as that tour sold out pretty quickly I think (albeit it a very low rate for a railtour).

On a slightly similar line, does anybody know what is happening with 142007? It was repainted at Eastleigh a while back but not heard anything of it since. Been hoping for a railtour to include both pacers once 007 surfaces again!

It’s out again on a private charter from Hellifield to Carlisle on the 18th May

They are very love hate trains. I personally loved bouncing along on a pacer on the Calder Valley line on a hot Summer's day with all the windows open - more or less felt like window hanging! I am of the opinion, that some could have been kept as crowdbuster trains, with the toilets locked out to avoid some of the PRM compliance issues. Would've been better than the current unit shortage on Northern!

Believe the pacer was on a trip for official's to announce reopening of Portishead branch to passenger train's in the future in. Not sure if it actually transversed the line or not.

Understand it ran up to Portbury dock, which is about as close as you can get to Portishead for now.
