The unreliability of the E400 MMCs is surprising, the route isn't particularly challenging and is mostly flat. B9TLs are becoming common place on the route to cover for E400 MMCs. 6 year old buses shouldn't really be having these sort of reliability issues.
Will be interesting to see what comes out of the traffic commissioners meeting. We only need to look at Go North East in the past few years to see that there would appear to be a company culture of less than perfect maintainence.

Did 20931 actually go on service today or was it a mistrack like 20371 posing as 20320 earlier on the 57

Forgive me if this has already been covered in this thread.

Why did East Yorkshire Coaches withdraw from running day excursions and holidays? Too much competition from Aklaims? Or not worth the admin?

Likewise, does East Yorkshire have much interest in the private hire market? Very little information online about it apart from the link below. I seem to remember quite a comprehensive website under Shipp ownership.

My understanding is they stopped running day trips etc as they couldn't complete with National Holidays. There's very little activity on social media for the coaching side

I can see a number of changes registered with the Traffic Commissioner from 31st May.

Notably, the Tuesdays only 594 is cancelled, the Saturday service on the 535 provided by EY is cancelled, Bridlington Town Service 513 is cancelled, and evening services on Fridays & Saturdays on Bridlington Town Service 504 are being removed.

The 81 is seeing a X81 being introduced (perhaps the 09:00 journey from York to Malton that runs direct on the A64 to Castle Howard is being renumbered?) and a timetable change on the 15/X15 in York.

The 594, 535, 513 and 504 services listed above are all council funded via the BSIP, so I guess the funding has ended and either the services are finishing or a new operator is taking over. I can't imagine any of them were wildly busy; I've used the 535 three times to connect with the 200 at Fridaythorpe and was the only passenger each time.

On a side note, the 1550 X46 Hull - Pocklington didn't run again today. According to bustimes, it hasn't run for the past four operating days (last time it ran was Tuesday last week) and each time the vehicle on that diagram has been used on a school service instead.

Welcome to the pains we who use the 35 service suffer when buses are cancelled and sent to Hedon or direct to schools for bringing the kids home

I never understood the point of the 535 & 200 connecting for journeys between Pocklington & Driffield when the X45 provides a more direct, more frequent connection. When I used the 200 through to Thixendale last year, there were 2 people waiting in Fridaythorpe for the 535.

EY only took on the 594 last September, it was previously operated by York Pullman, so I think the service might be ending. The 513 might be integrated into another service for standardisation in Bridlington. East Hull Community Transport operate all other 535 journeys so they might take over the Saturday service. The Friday & Saturdays evening journeys on the 504 will likely also not be replaced.

Having been in Pickering last weekend, I was glad to see that timetable posters for the 28 have finally been updated to reflect the changes that came into effect in February (!), including the removal of the X28 timetable from Viscount. This wasn't the case when I was in Pickering during the Easter weekend.

I may have asked this before, but did the B5 Volvo EvoSeti’s struggle as bad as the MMC’s? On paper the 6.7 Cummins should be more than enough. Especially compared to the B5 Volvo’s.

Not in my experience. I travelled regularly from York to Hull for a couple of years in 2018/2019. The regular bus on the journey I used in the morning was 814 IIRC, and it was depressingly reliable, i.e it was a noteworthy event if something else turned up instead!
Hull used to put B9's on the X46 on a daily basis, but that was because they didn't have enough Evoseti's to go round.

Interesting, I wonder if there’s a specific issue with the Cummins

Just created a thread for support in regarding an East Yorkshire 100 book I’m doing! Didn’t want to distract from this thread but any help is always appreciated.

Ticket machines have now been updated to accept ENCTS passes on the 822. For the first few weeks of the DalesBus season, passholders would have to show their passes to the driver as the ticket machine would reject the passes as the 822 didn't accept ENCTS for free travel in previous years.

Service changes from 31st May:
We’d like to let customers know about a number of changes to our network taking place at the end of May 2026.

Services 504, 513, 535 and 594 are supported by East Riding of Yorkshire Council using UK Government funding. Following a review of passenger numbers across these services, the Council has decided to withdraw funding for a number of journeys where usage has remained low.

As a result, the following changes will take place:

Service 504 – Bridlington – Buckton / Bempton / Flamborough

Friday and Saturday evening journeys will end after Saturday 30 May 2026.
Daytime buses on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays will continue to run as normal.
Service 513 – Bridlington Town Evenings

Friday and Saturday evening journeys will end after Saturday 30 May 2026.
Service 535 – Driffield – Fridaythorpe – Driffield (Saturdays)

This service will end after Saturday 30 May 2026.
Service 594 – Fridaythorpe – Millington – Pocklington

This service will end after Tuesday 26 May 2026.
We know these changes may be disappointing for some customers and we would like to thank everyone who has travelled with us on these services.

Additional Network Updates

Service 15

From Sunday 31 May 2026, Service 15 will return to operating on Sundays and Bank Holidays only, with a revised timetable.

Earlier this year, many customers told us that Bishopthorpe was underserved, with only one bus per hour into York. In response to that feedback, we worked hard to introduce weekday and Saturday journeys on Service 15 avoiding the South Bank area and getting into York fast, complementing service 11 by offering an extra bus per hour between Bishopthorpe and York.

From 1 July 2026, First York will introduce additional Service 11A journeys to complement the 11, meaning Bishopthorpe will continue to benefit from two buses per hour throughout the day.

Unfortunately, with another operator now providing the additional frequency, it is no longer commercially viable for us to continue operating weekday and Saturday journeys on Service 15.

We would like to sincerely thank everybody who has supported the service since launch. The feedback we’ve received about the route, and especially about our fantastic team of drivers, has been incredible. Our drivers have genuinely loved getting to know so many regular customers, and it has been wonderful to see the service become part of the local community.

While weekday and Saturday journeys are coming to an end, we’re very much looking forward to continuing to welcome you onboard every Sunday and Bank Holiday.

New X81 Sunday Service to Castle Howard

We’re also pleased to introduce a new seasonal Sunday service to Castle Howard for the summer season.

Service X81 will run from Station Avenue to Castle Howard via Stonebow, then avoiding the A64 jams via Huntington, Strensall, Sheriff Hutton and Bulmer.

Departures from Station Avenue

0900 • 1115 • 1415 to Castle Howard
1645 to Sheriff Hutton only

Additional journeys from Sheriff Hutton

1005 • 1305 • 1535

There will also be an 0813 journey from Sheriff Hutton to York — ideal for a summer day out.

Full timetables and further details will be available on our website shortly.

The 11A starts on 1st June not 1st July. Overall a bit disappointing, not surprising to see the 15 go back to Sundays only. 3bph between Bishopthorpe & York likely wouldn't be sustainable.

Quite excited for the X81 on Sundays, although it's a seasonal service and there's no mention of when it will end for winter, as I can connect with Moorsbus M8 in Castle Howard.

The cuts by East Riding of Yorkshire Council aren't surprising, perhaps a Community Transport Provider will try picking them up?

The 594 and 535 have an average of much less than one passenger a trip. Not worth anyone else picking them up.

Several drivers from EY have mentioned it but as say might not be true

Sure with it being a public enquiry that we will know on Monday if it goes ahead or not
I see - asked the Saturday moorsbus driver and they were under the presumption it was still on... I suppose I can always ring up the TC office tomorrow and find out

Yeah I'm not surprised about the 594, Fridaythorpe & Millington will have the Wolds Explorer on weekends through to September at least. East Hull Community Transport does operate the 535 on Tuesdays & Thursdays, I wonder what their passenger numbers are like and if its better than EY's on Saturdays.

Fridaythorpe Parish Council have helpfully displayed passenger numbers on a poster at the bus shelter in the village announcing the withdrawl. The annual passenger estimate for 2025/26 for the Saturday 535 is 173, and the 594 just 84. There were 4 of us on the afternoon 535 yesterday so a bumper crowd on a B9TL!

Thursday is market day in Driffield so might generate more traffic but EHCT use a minibus so it won't be huge numbers. Credit to the council for trying, but linking tiny villlages with a small market town over long distances is always going to be a financial black hole.

EHCT also has lower operating costs on the 535 with a minibus than EY does with a B9TL! I recall that EY once used an Eastrider spec E400 MMC on the 594!

I suppose anyone in Fridaythorpe will likely have a car and will probably just drive on the A166 to York should they want to go shopping and whatnot, rather than on the skeleton bus service to Driffield or Pocklington.

What is the purpose of the Saturday 535? Four hours in Driffield on a Saturday afternoon seems too long to me.

EY promoted the 535 with a connection onto the 200 in Fridaythorpe between Driffield and Pocklington. No idea why as Driffield is linked far more frequently and directly with Pocklington by the X45 anyway. I suppose East Riding of Yorkshire Council wanted to try expanding buses for Fridaythorpe, unfortunately it hasn't been successful.

There's nothing on N&P about it being changed which I assume there would be if it was
