Your location according to Google

It appears that Google does not believe that I live in Cheshire East, though it relents for about a month, then makes an arbitary decision that I live in Wolverhampton.

I always use the option to change it back to the correct area, but the only place that Google thinks that I should live in is Wolverhampton and today, once again, I am assumed to live in "Mick McCarthy land", which again I have again corrected.

Can anyone tell me why Google always chooses to over-ride my correction....and why is it always Wolverhampton that is chosen?

I would rather google did not know where I live.

I suspect it looks for your ISP address and assigns a location based on that. Not sure why it does it though

It has previously said Brighton!

It's to do with your IP address for your network provider. I live in Plymouth, but my IP apparently puts me in Newton Abbot!

I have set my location to my actual postcode, however when I log out, Google says I am in Camden Town, which is not too far from my actual location.

When I put in my postcode and go onto StreetView, Google says I am in Paddington, which again is not too far off.

google varies me from Taunton to Bournemouth, I live in penryn cornwall,
Taunton is a 2 hr drive, bournemouth a 4 hr drive!

So have I (always have done, since recommended to do this by a BTengineer). I have never been to Wolverhampton...what is it like?

Nothing much really, there's nothing of interest unless you want a ride on the Midland Metro.

When I'm logged in it's fine, it takes me to the right place; it's only when I'm logged out that it goes a bit weird. To be honest it probably doesn't help that my location services seem to be permenantly off.

Google Maps Says i live in Queensbury, West Yorkshire bUT I Live in Keighley

Google has problems with Bradford. Anywhere that is Bradford MDBC but not actually the city centre it thinks is in Queensbury. Unfortuantely more people are relying on google. I had an invoice last week adressed to my correct address but with Queensbury inserted between the village I live in (near Keighley) and the postcode.

It certainly wasn't in the address I gave them.

The Giffard Arms is also in Wolvo (and it has an epic chair). Many a time I've been there before a gig at the Civic/Wulfrun.
Wolverhampton is much like any other city really and close enough for a change of scenery while also allowing use of a network daytripper

When I set up this thread, I said that I lived in Cheshire East, but that Google decided my location was Wolverhampton, despite my changing it back to the correct postcode area.

Google must have been annoyed with my corrections, as it has now decided my location is.....Odd Rode!!!!. I had to do some searching to find that it is a civil parish name covering seven small villages to the north of Stoke on Trent. Once again, this has been amended to the correct postal code.

Has anyone else suddenly found that Google has given them a second wrong location, as well as me?

Getting somewhat annoyed now with Google...the latest new location for me is West Bromwich....which is now the fourth wrong location and all of these are in the Midlands.:roll:...I still live in the Cheshire East area.

What browser are you using? I use Chrome (which contains the bit of location-finding software that used to be called Gears).

To its credit, Google is under the impression that I am in Bath (technically, it's just outside but it is only four miles to the city centre). This is more than can be said of other sources though. Although not true now, where I was living this time last year MSN thought I was in Preston hock:

Ahh, back on form google, now I'm on Oxford Road in Manchester (Still, I am on a vpn to the university so thats to be expected)
