I was on 1F45 1402 St Pancras International to Sheffield, unit 222017, joining at Leicester for Sheffield, and when we were a little over a mile North of the station it sounded like the engine under coach D (composite) coughed and spluttered to a halt, and silence descended. Shortly after we came to a halt with nothing ahead of us, and I assumed the two were connected; but it turned out to be a bridge strike** at Gypsy lane (nearly 2 miles North of Leicester) which we were soon allowed to pass over at walking pace.
However, the engine under coach D never seemed to restart before we got to Sheffield, despite which we didn't lose any more time. Unit was 222017. I wonder how many engines we were left with?
** Bridge strike aftermath was visible passing over the bridge; a very sorry flimsy looking crushed lorry looked as if had come off far worse than the bridge.
