Is a super off-peak single available to buy at stations or only on line?

I thought you could buy these at stations but just tried buy one from a C2C station to Gloucester (£30) and was told the cheapest ticket they could sell was £70 so I should buy it on line.

Yes they can be bought anytime anyhow - maybee it wasn't valid when you wanted to travel?

It depends.

FGW and LM's Super Off-Peak singles can be bought at stations.

But East Coast's Super Off-Peak singles are a temporary promotional offer a available only at eastcoast.co.uk

What time was it you were trying to travel? Was it a TVM or a ticket office, and what was the origin station?

Well, they're selling an SVH analogue based on the SSR fare for a while.

It was from Upminster to Gloucester for travel tomorrow and I tried to book it at Upminster ticket office this evening.
It doesn't surprise me if the ticket office got it wrong as the seem to struggle to sell anything that isn't on the C2C route.

Yes but isn't that a 'saver half'?
Not any more.

The "Saver Half" was the old, 'complicated', 'confusing' name for the SVH. To keep it simple, the SVH is now called "Off Peak Single". It has the same validity as the SVS (also called "Off Peak Single") but the SVH is around half the price and only available online.

This is designed to ensure you can "buy with confidence" so you "know exactly where you stand". Simple! ;)

Anyway I chose a random c2c station (as the OP doesn't specify which one), Upminster. The Super Off Peak single is not £30, it is £46. The Anytime Single is £72.

The Super Off Peak single is valid by any train from Upminster, and it is valid on services timed to depart Paddington between 1010 and 1501, and from 1901 on weekdays and any time at weekends. Restrictions also apply to the return journey (but unrestricted from London to Upminster). Different, more restrictive times, apply to journeys via Waterloo/Clapham Jn (which is slower anyway). Unless the OP indicated he wished to travel at a barred time, the £46 ticket must be sold by the ticket office.

Like I said were all going to get confused as these things are pretty simple at the moment and we need to be kept on our toes;)

Not seen that one before. One assumes that is +READING STROUD INCLUDING LONDON

I bought a super off peak single Upminster - Gloucester for £30 from FGW website.
They show 3 prices for Super off peak single.

£30 - via Stroud
£32.50 - any permitted route
£46 - via Reading & Stroud including London.

They also show off peak singles at £36.50, £42.50 & £55 with the same route restrictions.

Anytime singles are £72, £74 & £79.

And they say fares are simplified!

Am I missing something or would not one normally travel through Reading & Stroud, including London, so why is this the most expensive fare and more than any permitted route?

I can't find the Rte Stroud or Rte Any Permitted on Avantix Traveller but I do see them on the FGW website. However they do not appear when using the East Coast website (WebTIS). There is no indication on the FGW site that they are a web-only fare, so it is unclear what is happening here.

Well the any permitted allows travel via Bristol Parkway but the £46.50 fare doesn't make sense

£30 - via Stroud

Zone U1256 - Gloucester Super Off-Peak Single Restriction YU

£32.50 - any permitted route

Zone U1256 - Gloucester Super Off-Peak Single Restriction YU

£46 - via Reading & Stroud including London.

Upminster - Gloucester Super Off-Peak Single Restriction YU

They also show off peak singles at £36.50,

Zone U1256 - Gloucester Off-Peak Single Restriction YC

Zone U1256 - Gloucester Off-Peak Single Restriction YC

& £55 with the same route restrictions.

Upminster - Gloucester Off-Peak Single Restriction YC

Anytime singles are £72,

Upminster - Gloucester Anytime Single

Zone U1256 - Gloucester Anytime Single

Zone U1256 - Gloucester Anytime Single

Ergo, for anything other than Anytime Single, the Upminster fare is a rip-off as you have more validity by buying the U1256 fare due to the inter-availability between Fenchurch Street and Upminster on LU and C2C services. On the other hand, the Anytime Single from Upminster is cheaper than the U1256 fares.

I can't find the Rte Stroud or Rte Any Permitted on Avantix Traveller but I do see them on the FGW website. However they do not appear when using the East Coast website (WebTIS). There is no indication on the FGW site that they are a web-only fare, so it is unclear what is happening here.

Some are fares for the flow Upminster - Gloucester and others are for London Zone U1256 - Gloucester. Simple! ;) This one actually stumped me for a bit too.
