Thanks. That makes sense. I was getting too excited that OLE gantries could be going up sooner rather than later.

On another note - I was absolutely bamboozled by the amount of scaffolding in the station. See attached:
I think it’s referred to as a ‘crash deck’. Strong enough to have a worksite with all its heavy equipment working safely but above the normal passenger traffic below. It’s how they did the previous sections of the main roof.

Looks like a crash deck - Bristol Temple Meads has only just got rid of it's one, they do make themselves felt don't they!

Thank you very much. I have learned something today.

The line between Guide Bridge - Stalybridge had wires installed at the same time as the line via Ashton, however when that line was all approved and trains started running on electric, there was no mention of the line to Guide Bridge.

Are these wires 'live'? Has it been certified (or whatever it needs doing) but just not used? Even on the rare occasion an 802 runs via Guide Bridge, it does so in diesel mode. I completely understand the logic behind putting the wires up at the same time as the Ashton lines, but it could be quite a while before it gets regular electric use.

They have been given authorisation by the ORR: https://www.orr.gov.uk/sites/defaul...-w1w2a-manchester-victoria-to-stalybridge.pdf
And are listed as electrified in the Sectional Appendix. However the Automatic Power Changeover takes place between Stalybridge and Guide Bridge, so that trains to/from east of Stalybridge will be running on diesel through that station.

In theory (if there was a very quiet period) you could run a Stalybridge to Stalybridge train via Oxford Road.

Just hope that the users of Huddersfield station don’t have to put up with it as long as Bristolians did - the best part of five years.

The two end sections already completed here seemed to take about a year. Approx April 2024 to April 2025, that’s with a quick scan through the search results.

I rode it Wednesday from Piccadilly Platform 1 to Huddersfield but it was on a 185 and I was wondering the same thing, so thanks for asking the question.

Yes the test train was a 397 so first of the class to reach Stalybridge. I believe there's some photos on the NW electrification thread :)

Anyone know what this is on Huddersfield Station? I suppose it could be an electrification gantry base - surely not for a signal or is it? It has appeared since I last visited in December.
I think they plan on extending the eastern end of the Euston canopy, so it could be a base for one of the support pillars.

That seems a good shout, I did think footbridge originally but it looks as if that’s a bit further along - and of course as you’ve noted the canopy gets longer at the Leeds end too.

Welcome as well, I see that’s your first post.

Took the dogs for a walk today to look at the new footbridge that's replaced the foot crossing near Garforth. Also, the mad crossing a bit further down with the steps up the embankment is now closed and the crossing removed. New footbridge is good, if not a bit oversized! Seems that the may have made provision for an extra track or two in the alignment of it, though not sure how it would work with the nearby stables and embankment?
Also a couple of shots of the re-installed cast iron bridge - still lots to do before it's back in use by the looks of it, but nice to see it back.

It's actually a distance from the footbridge towers (and the steps or at least their roof which are already in place on the Manchester bound platform). OLE perhaps.
There’s also the extension to the main P2/3 canopy mentioned in the linked design statement, it supports the possibility raised in post #10269.

I believe this footbridge is designed for use by horses and their riders.
For a moment I thought this was in reference to the new footbridge on Huddersfield station and I was very confused!

Yup, also possible. It might not have been so easy to see in the picture, but it is a pretty sizeable base.. there are reinforcing bars bent over and sticking out suggesting more concrete to come. I would guess that a substantial canopy has far more stresses from nature than a gantry..

More reinstating than extending, the roof at that end was removed around 1983. 1 Bay of the Euston roof has been removed at the manchester end of the station.

It's the top of one of the HD bolt boxes for the columns of the Canopy A extension:

I've seen as well that in Ravensthorpe the new alignment of Baker Bridge the 2nd section of the iron trestle has been lifted into place over the river Calder pictures on Facebook group Dewsbury

March edition of the Enhancements delivery programme is now available from Network Rail: https://www.networkrail.co.uk/wp-co...nhancements-Delivery-Plan-Mar-2026-Update.pdf

Latest TRU target dates are:
E1 Church Fenton to York - Target: April 2026, Status: On Target.
W3 Huddersfield to Ravensthorpe - Target: Feb 2030, Status: On Target
W4 Ravensthorpe to Leeds - Target: Feb 2030, Status: On Target

There doesn't seem to be any change from the December target dates, which is good!

I think thats not the river but the canal which was spanned several months ago. The river is awaiting the completion of the east bank pier and columns.

Seen on AIVR that more piles have gone in off the Dn Hull between Cross Gates and Thorpe Park - what's interesting to note is that they are quite a way from the Dn Hull. Perhaps 4-tracking's being considered after all!
Note - the signals that have recently gone in aren't but that shouldn't matter too much.
I would imagine that any 4-track loops east of Leeds are electrically common with the main lines, at least at the outset; while it's possible to get loops in from Marsh Lane to just beyond Neville Hill, and from Cross Gates to the Thorpe Park area, I don't quite know if the gap between those 2 can be closed.

Ah that explains it - it didn't look like a typical arrangement for OLE holding down bolts!
I’ve just seen another video with various overhead views of Huddersfield station and you can now see 3 sets of fittings in line with the existing canopy supports, exactly where you’d need them for when the canopy is extended to the foot of the new footbridge (as expected). The view is at about 0m 53s:

I know there's probably still much work to do, but I really can't get my head round how it will be another 4 years before the Leeds to Church Fenton bit is ready, given the recent progress and there are seemingly masts etc up over much of the route already. 4 years!
