Guards who are passed out on 175s HAVE been TUDI trained - it's not added to their licence if they haven't been assessed on it.
The TUDI has NOT been passed to be used in passenger service with passengers in the isolated unit, therefore the blanket method of operation at the moment is to have the trailing unit out of use.
As part of the last pay deal it was condition that the RMT had to co-operate with the introduction of the 175s.
Something else is holding up the introduction of the TUDI use with passengers in the isolated unit.
Are there actually stations on the mainline that cannot fit 2x2car trains, so rear unit needs locking out, rather than being normal. 4cars easily fit 96m platforms, so which platforms are stupidly short causing trains to be reduced to only 2cars for passenger use ?

EDIT just looked at pages 95-123 of attached
Dockyard (only platform 2 at 79m) is only one from Exeter to Penzance on through route (there are some bay platforms). So whole TUDI thing is due to only one platform being 16m short on pairs of 2car units

Saltash on the up also, you have to stop short of the signal, with an IET it's the front 2 coaches only.

They do seem to have issues with the doors on these ex TFW trains. Sometimes they won’t open at all or for ages then I noticed that staff had to open them via a switch by the doors this has made some trains very late massive delays at every stop because of this

I`m still trying to get a handle on how the train crew are struggling to arm the doors at times and I haven`t come up with a decent reason as yet ? I`ve never known so many problems trying to do it.

You mention "that you noticed the staff had to open them via a switch by the doors" Do you have any further details or possible pictures of the switch or the general area that you are referring to ? I assume that this maybe the No2 end area of the car in question ?

Has there been anything from Ely to Wolverton recently, must be over a month since any were taken from storage (is it 6 units still at Ely ?)

Or any recent deliveries from Wolverton (last one was almost 4 weeks ago, 20 Feb), think Wolverton has a 2car (unit 004) and 9 x 3car, some of which have been there since 2025

Wondering when next one might move as getting close to Easter and start of busy season.

Waiting tonight to see if another path appears, if one does hopefully some 3-car units move together. More importantly, it would be ideal if one of the 3-car units enter service.

Any news on 175101 - when it might be in service? Thanks
Still on LA on exam. Dont know when any of the 3 cars will get to stretch their legs.

Same with 175010 on Long Rock, thats there purely as a training vehicle as far as im aware.

Fingers crossed at least one of the three 3-car units at Laira will be available soon (I'm including 175114)

It seemed to be something they had to reach to get to and it was the whole carriage too. It happened twice definitely maybe three different days and one of the journeys happened at each stop the last time I saw it they seemed ready for it.

Thanks for the reply. You mention that the train crew had to reach to get to it and in all of the carriage too, I`m trying to think what they might have to reach for in the whole carriage to arm the doors. Was this within the saloon or in each vestibule ?

Path in for tomorrow, I presume for 175s. Loco has run down from Derby today.

Think there are still 6 units at Ely (happy to be corrected)
2car : units 005, 008. (8 was split, don't know if still is)
3car : units 103, 104, 105, 109

Wonder if they will take multiple units, clearly if it is class 7 train not going to be operating at anything near 100mph, more a slow trundle.

175111 arrived at Laira around an hour ago 5V84 1154 Wolverton Centre Sidings to Laira T.& R.S.M.D.

Seen here en route on the Frome avoiding line 175111 5V84 20/03/26 Frome Avoider

Good to see this one back in action as from memory it became a bit of a Christmas Tree at Longsight.
Indeed, although from a personal point of view it obviously had ROGs speedy driver again as I had planned to go out for it and saw it skipped most of the loops / pauses  Glad I went out for the 455s instead.
