Annoying television adverts...

Not television ads, but YouTube has ramped up the annoyance by a factor of 50. Other than the timing, I previously didn't object too much to the adverts as they were fairly short. However, YT has now seen fit to shove "infomercial"-type advertising into its videos, some of them several minutes long. While they can be skipped after a few seconds, it's irritating to have to do this several times during a video.

I'm using the YouTube app via a Chromecast so there's no obvious way for me to block them, either.

Worst of all with YouTube, for me, is when an ad comes on part way through a song aargh!
I have been using Firefox browser and uBlock Origin add-on for several years now and I have never experienced the YT ads at all!

Some of which adverts are for the ad-free subscription option, so they have an incentive to make the free (advert-funded) version less usable. Since YouTube is largely or completely unregulated in such matters, they can put in as many adverts as they like, though ultimately if they push viewers away completely they may lose revenue overall.

Thanks for that I’ll give it a try.
I use DuckDuckGo browser, it can remove YT interruptions but sometimes the videos won't unless the 'ad blocker' is turned off. DDG does however offer the 'fireproof' option for wanted websites allowing cookies etc. gathered in a session to be instantly zapped. Using private browsers also disrupt YouTube's opressive efforts sometimes.

There is a rather strange TV advert that portrays people emptying their diswasher with their backs to the unit and not looking at what they are taking out.
Isn't this the specific point of this particular advert (for Beko/Fairy Platinum Plus), where the "no check" advertising claim is that if using the combination of Beko/Fairy, it will clean so intensely that you won't ever need to check the cleanliness of any of the dishes?

But that is no excuse for the people behaving in an abnormal fashion when taking items from the dishwasher. Perhaps the people featured are suffering from a type of aversion disorder.

I've noticed this too must be trying to convince license payers getting value for money and to get them on the BBC side for the battle with the Trump debacle if it happens?

I do not have a television therefore do not need a licence. I am expected to declare this regularly.

My latest reminder just received has the words 'Act now to avoid breaking the law' in red letters at the top. I guess it's another sign they're hard up.

I also wonder what law I am breaking if I don't have a television - have I missed something?.

Having seen the usual crop of perfume adverts that appeared towards the end of 2025, the most ridiculous one is surely the Burberry Goddess Eau de Parfum one, with the young woman and the lionesses, as having seen a nature progromme the same day as the last time I saw the advert, when a pack of hunting lionesses overwhelmed their prey and did not just run alongside the prey, as the advert shows at the end with the girl and the lionesses together on a hilltop.

A close second in the ridiculous stakes was the offering from Dior, in which the woman is shown climbing on top of what looks like a large mansion conservatory, shrieking "Our Baby", over and over again.

I’m sorry if it has already been mentioned but that Sainsbury’s advert (Waynesburys) has well outstayed its welcome imo

Confused.com insurance adverts are getting tedious now. I wonder if the job description pointed out we'll morph you into an inflatable caricature, raise you a few feet from the ground, burst the inflatable and let you fall onto a hard surface.

They were probably paid quite well as the ad definitely raises awareness of the brand.

I can't stand Stephen Fry, he's everywhere. You can't move in bookshops for Stephen Fry's novels, almost every quiz-show on television is hosted by Stephen Fry and when the ads come on there he is again doing the voiceovers for Sainsbury's.

If anyone's following the Olympic curling on Discovery (Eurosport in old money!) then you should be sick to the teeth of a holiday company's one and only ad - so much so that I will actively avoid that company for ever!!

That's the problem with companies sponsoring programmes / series / periods of time on a channel rather than merely having an advert shown during a break - you get the same one, relentlessly.

We binge watched Unforgotten on ITVX last year, and every ad break began and ended with the same bloody car advert. Drove us crackers

Luckily on only watch daytime TV occasionally (snooker sometimes, the odd nostalgia-fest watching Minder or the Sweeney if I'm at a loose end), and I'm already fed up of the Trust A Trader ads

That awful "We buy any car" advert has returned, supposedly to celebrate some kind of anniversary of the company. Hope it's short lived!
Also the meerkats stripping off to go skinny dipping, how ridiculous l don't think they have any bits to flash anyway.
I saw the extended version of the holiday insurance firm where it ends up with the lady saying about sticking it where the sun don't shine. I nearly lost the will to live it was so long.

He currently hosts Jeopardy, and previously hosted QI - what other quiz shows does he host?

Anyone heard the strange TikTok ad on the radio (think it was on Heart or Capital, no doubt on others) end is the sound of some steam loco with a whistle and distinctive chuffing sounds with the voice over saying 'and thats the sound of a Class 73 Electro-Diesel Locomotive..apparently' is it advertising mis information thats on TikTok or something?

I find the current Eurostar ad annoying. The lady appears to find her seat well into the journey, when the train is passing through the countryside.

The Comfort ad with Molly-Mae from a few months back. Of the current ads - Fairy, Bold and Lenor Outdoorable.

Regarding the Lenor Outdoorable one of those adverts, is there any organisation to contact if the bright light emissions shown in the adverts when the bottle top is opened does not happen in real life?

As one unaware of the person described as Molly-Mae, exactly who is she?

Fabric softener! It seems to have an almost unlimited advertising budget.

It's an excellent example of a broadly pointless product that requires a constant campaign to convince people that it is actually absolutely essential. You can't possibly be doing laundry properly unless you use fabric softener!

The same thing now seems to be happening with "in-wash scent boosters". It's bad enough having two separate liquid concoctions we apparently have to use, without also needing a handful of tablets as well. It's not as if there was widespread discontent with the scent of clean laundry before this product was brought to market.
