I spoke to my mother who did a trip to Paris in the mid 70's (1976 ish) who stated that she caught a train from London direct to Paris without getting off, but there was no tunnel then and she doesn't remember ever getting on board a boat.
I have to assume she was asleep as it was probably an overnighter. So how did it work back then? Did they load the train on a ship whilst passengers were asleep and they woke up the next morning in Paris unawares of the logistics of how it worked?
