If the project benefits the EU, or is part of an existing fund. The EU is providing significant funding for the new trainsets for the Dublin-Belfast cross-border services.

The various packages have funded lines in Serbia amongst other countries. Personally I think it's a massive stretch to believe that Europe would have any interest at all in this line, and well beyond the realms of fantasy that they would fund it, but that isn't primarily because we're are not an EU member.

Absolutely not. If the UK leaves the EU then the UK better damn right commit to Brexit. If we rejoin the EU then the EU will look at us as a joke and use us as puppets.

If the UK sensibly rejoins the EU, then it will be the EU and can hardly be a puppet.

The UK *has* left the EU, and it's not doing us any favours. The UK needs the government to either commit to a frictionless but not integrated relationship (Switzerland or Norway style) or just rejoin properly.

It was never going to go to hospitals (as per the bus), but it must have gone somewhere. If it did not go anywhere then just imagine how big the "black hole" would have been.

Brexit is done. Some people got what they wanted, some people didnt and many people voted Remain and therefore cant get what they wanted. That is how democracy works. We don't like the outcomes, but there is no better way.

The money has mostly been gobbled up by the lack of growth over the last 10 years.

It's like not getting a pay rise for 10 years then wondering what happened to the spare cash you used to have.

The EU would not fund a project like this in the South East of England.

There is a discussion elsewhere on this forum about the administrative regions of the UK. One of the main reasons for defining those regions is an EU requirement to compile statistics that can be used to compare economic performance between regions across the EU in a consistent way. EU funding then goes to regions that are not performing very well economically. The South East of England would be one of the best performing regions in the EU and would not qualify.

Just make the region border not include London and add alot of deprived areas.

London is already a separate region. The South East is a big L-shaped area that covers Oxon/Bucks down to Hampshire and across Sussex and Surrey to Kent.

"Gaming" the region boundaries has trade-offs. Move more deprived areas in to the South East and you raise the comparative level of the regions you take it away from. Not to mention where those deprived areas actually are so you end up with clearly gerrymandered borders.
