Do you (or does anyone) know when 197025 first left the Newport factory and went to Donnington?

Thanks Jacob for the update.

So,all the Crewe based Cambrian 197's are currently at LNWR apart from 197040 which presumably remains in the south yard.

Today,197013 worked 5Z97 Holyhead - Chester TMD presumably after a visit to the lathe. There is a 5Z97 return move scheduled to leave in around 15 minutes time. This move was originally scheduled to run to Crewe Electric but has now been amended to Holyhead.

Yesterday,30/12/2025,197029 and 197030 worked 5Z30 Holyhead sidings - Chester TMD

I think 197030 has flown the nest maybe, or is getting ready to ?.

On 29/12/2025 197030 worked ECS 3C00 10:24 Holyhead Car MD to Llandudno Junction.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . and return ECS 3C01 11:31 Llandudno Junction to Holyhead Car MD.

On 30/12/2025 197030 worked ECS 5Z30 13:38 Holyhead to Chester DMU depot with 197029.

On 31/12/2025 197030 worked ECS 5Z97 17:12 Chester DMU depot to Holyhead with 197029.

As promised:

Pwllheli/coast-only (apart from the Shrewsbury-Machynlleth) - would be nice if one or two Aberystwyths were added for later in the week.

Not my video. 'Class 197 Cambrian Line testing / training in October / November / December 2025'. Includes the first daytime 197s at Aberystwyth, as well as daytime 197s at Bow Street bridge, Caersws, Borth and 'Picnic Island' near Aberdovey (and Talybont, Gwynedd in the evening), night-time 197s at Newtown (including 197039 that left the factory in 2025), and his favourite moments from his previous 2025 Cambrian 197 videos.

3C01,3C02 and 3C03 have worked this morning with 197029 and 197030.

Units out of service/spare on Monday 05/01/2025 were 21 of the 197'0 and 10 197'1 which is a deteriorisation of availability over the Christmas/New Year period.4 of the 197'0 and 2 of the 197'1 have entered service today bringing the figures down to 17 and 8 respectively.
Still no attempt to bring any more of the stored Cambrian units into service and likewise all the other long term stored units remain presumably waiting parts.

Looks like a 150 on a MHN-MAN service today, unless there was a set swap at Cardiff?
I may be wrong but I didn't think they were cleared any longer for north of Shrewsbury? Or it may be drivers are out of ticket? I know I haven't seen one of the Crewe cams for Eons.

A few have been to Birmingham recently. The Crewe to Shrewsbury stopper is booked a 197 now.

I think from posts a long way back there is no depot/servicing space to use all the 197s until the 158s go.
Then of course the ERTMS 197s will not be available to cover other routes !.

My guess is that the number of ERTMS 197s currently in use is roughly the same as the number of long term out of action 197s ?.
Or at least not many more.

Until the issue of long term out of action (ie broken) 197s is resolved then I cannot see how there will be enough ERTMS 197s for Cambrian.
That is unless 158s and 197s do end up working together on Cambrian OR 158s end up doing a few edge of network routes like West of Cardiff but then there are always 150s o_O.

The 150's are due C6 exams so it's unlikely. More likely to have some 158's covering those diagrams

They can go north on paper, but it requires fairly high up managerial approval as it eats up the miles and some of them are limited in how much longer they can go on before big exams are necessary. Most Shrewsbury and Crewe traincrew are still competent but there are a small amount of recent starters who never got trained on them in the first place that obviously can't work them.

Theres only 1 Cambrian unit which is stored, 003 at Holyhead which has been there for months. The others that arent yet used, as far as im aware, havent passed the acceptance process yet and aren't yet TfW units so cant be used in service.
Most of the long term ones are out with cracking so until a fix is approved for those (a temporary fix is near i believe) then they wont be back.
The first of them has now been taken back to Chester so hopefully that heralds a start of their return.

Exactly - in December 2025, there were actually Rail Operations Group night-time 197 Cambrian ETCS mileage accumulation runs with unaccepted 197039+197040 that happened a week after Transport for Wales daytime 197 Cambrian driver training runs with accepted 197029+197030.

I was not aware of the 'cracking' issues.Coincidently 197112 which has been OOS for a few weeks has worked 5Z12 Crewe South Yard - Chester TMD today so maybe related.
So the units not yet accepted by TFW are 197023,197025,197032,197038,197039 and 197040?
Who actually facilities the movements of these units, for example most of them were moved just before christmas from the south yard to LNWR depot.I realise that ROG will probably be involved in the actual movements but for who?CAF,TFW?

ROG does the millage runs and TFW do the training runs for staff for example. TFW accept them from CAF once they are ready. TFW is one of CAF's customers.

3C02 ran (and 3C03 is running) today (7/1/26) but as a 2-car. As I viewed it from a distant spot, if someone can tell me whether it's 197029 or 197030, I'd appreciate it a lot and thanks in advance.

Yes, theyre the ones not yet showing in the fleet.
My belief is that any units not accepted are still owned by CAF and so the moves will be for them.

And 197041 as well which I believe hasn’t been delivered yet?

Yes 041 isnt delivered at all yet.
When 197041 is delivered, it will be the only "2026" 197, and I believe it will also be the only "2026" pure diesel multiple unit!

If there's no "last Class 197 rolls off the production line" article it will require Freedom of Information I guess, but the 'Constructed' range of years in the infobox of the 197 Wikipedia article will say "2020—2026". Quite a long amount of time really, isn't it?
