No idea about the above and i take it the pair of them are still at Leicester. Maintenance shed doors have been closed ever since they arrived on Sunday evening so i took it they have not emerged as of yet. We'll maybe see later on today then.

0Q76 was showing as 99003 on RTT but that was already at Leicester and it was in fact 99004.

99004 was out on 0Q76 today

Just checked Railcam and is says that 0Q78 was 99002, so which one was right?
0Q74 as 99003, looks like TOPS had an input error when I posted the OP

99003 worked 0Q74 yesterday - 100% confirmed in the video above. 99004 worked 0Q76 yesterday - also 100% confirmed in the video above.

But what worked 0Q78 please? TOPS suggests 99003. But above it's been posted that Railcam has 99002 down for 0Q78 and I've also seen a post elsewhere that says it was 99002.

Hello everyone
I’m sorry if this is posted in the wrong place. I’m sure it will be moved to the appropriate place.

Could anybody please tell me what the class 99 is sitting outside the shed next to the 56 at Leicester now (19th dec) at 11.30am?

With thanks
Dean

It is exactly the right thread to ask the question in.

Does anybody have any updates on future 99 deliveries? I think I read somewhere GBRf suggesting that they'd need at least six locos in the country before they can start regularly using them in service?

99002 did 0Q78, confirmed by photo from the driver.
Thank you. Since managed to confirm this with some Flickr photos as well.

After a month of no movements involving 99's, I'm pleased to say that the first moves of 2026 are now in the system and they're all light engine moves.

Monday night, 0Q70 Leicester - Peterborough:

Then overnight Monday into the early hours of Tuesday, 0Q71 Peterborough - Millerhill:

This time there are no paths for them to go between Millerhill and Edinburgh Waverley. The next paths are light engine moves for both Tuesday night and Wednesday night based off Millerhill with the headcodes 0Q73 and 0Q74:

Next, the return south to Peterborough from Millerhill in the early hours of Thursday as 0Q75:

And finally, back to base from Peterborough on Thursday morning as 0Q76, the only movement here fully in daylight:

I saw this at Melton Mowbray. Rather interesting how it was planned though, a VSTP went in Monday night for 0Q40 Leicester - Peterborough with no return path. After it came through heading to Peterborough, I noticed a return path as 0Q41 back from Peterborough - Leicester. Was this driver training? If so, they left it very late in the day to plan it.

Most likely planned in plenty of time, and path confirmed to Gbrf, probably just late being loaded into system.

In a recent issue of Modern Railways, a senior man in GBRf said in an article that he wants at least 6 99s in the country (I don’t remember if that meant fully commissioned or not but I would expect they would have to be ready for traffic) before he’d be confident to put 4 to work and have 2 spare because the trains that they’d operate will take advantage of their haulage capabilities and, if one had to be substituted by a non-99, it’d cause severe disruption on the network.

Looks like GBRF are going to have another go at sending a 99 (or 99's) to Millerhill this week. Since the test(?) runs with 99001+99002 ran successfully without issue yesterday, I expect these to run this time.

Starting with tomorrow, 0Q70 over to Peterborough in the dark:

After less than an hour at Peterborough, north overnight to Millerhill as 0Q71:

Scheduled for both Thursday and Friday evening/night there's the following...

0Q72 Millerhill - Millerhill via Prestonpans:

0Q73 Millerhill - Millerhill via Slateford and Motherwell:

0Q74 Millerhill - Millerhill via Slateford, Carstairs and Motherwell:

In the early hours of Friday morning there's these little trips...

0Q75 Millerhill - Prestonpans:

0Q76 Prestonpans - Millerhill:

On Saturday, mostly during darkness, the 99 (or 99's) return south to Peterborough as 0Q75:

And finally, in daylight, 0Q76 Peterborough - Leicester on Saturday morning:

Assuming that no shunting has taken place since the Monday movements and also assuming no shunting will take place at Peterborough, 99002 should lead 99001 to Peterborough on 0Q70. Shortly after, 99001 should lead 99002 to Millerhill on 0Q71. If anyone does venture out in the dark to see either of these moves confirmation would be appreciated please.

I wonder what happened between Cramlington and Morpeth for the move to end up so late?

Loco issue? Or NR issues?

0Q71 last night was stationary in Platform 2 at Morpeth for a long while. When I realised this I went to watch it on Traksy and so can confirm it ran wrong-road* between Morpeth and just south of Alnmouth where it crossed back over.

*For anyone reading this who may be unsure about the term wrong-road (sometimes also called bang-road), that means the train went on a track in the opposite direction to what the track is usually used for. In this case 0Q71 travelled northbound on the usually southbound line of the ECML utilising the bi-di (bidirectional) signalling and passed through Platform 1 at Pegswood, Widdrington and Acklington.

Anyone know if either or both 99003 99004 are outside at Leicester or tucked up in the warmth of their new home??
