That's the point of a 'soft' launch. If a problem occurrs - the issue can be identified and the trains taken out of service and fixed. Luckily EMR have the two 7-car 222's to hand for the moment - which can cover any service. The problem with this last incident was that there wasn't seemingly a spare 222 or enough train crew to restart the diagram at Sheffield or Derby. So in addition to the delay, it caused a cancellation - which woud have triggered delay repay payments.
Hopefully the door issues can be resolved in time before the spare 222's go off-lease!
That's twice now that an 810 was terminated at Sheffield with the return leg cancelled. Making the next 5-car 222 rather cosy!
Being on the platform at the time the change took place and witnessing the inconvenienced passengers (as the booked driver for the 222), it would have been simpler to make the change at Sheffield rather than part journey (unless the replacement was ready on platform which it wasn't). I'm hearing the TM failed the train at Sheffield with an interlocking cab door failing to lock

Why could it not continue on diesel only mode.
That makes me wonder how full/empty the diesel tanks are when in normal operation? Presumably not completely full because electric running is taken into account?

Surplus fuel costs more both in terms of price and also given that it’s extra weight to carry, of course.

The additional fuel weight is negligible in terms of overall energy, particularly when running electric with regen export available.

On 810012 (or is it 010?) currently running to London from Sheffield and none of the interior or exterior displays appear to be working, the TV style screens just showing EMR and the scrolling displays blank.

I can't imagine they don't fill them every time they arrive on depot, it would create a lot of additional management to keep checking the fuel levels before allocating them etc

As acceptance onto depot each night, fuel tanks will be filled, toilet tanks will be emptied, screen wash filled, sand levels checked, ad-blue levels checked etc.

So to summarise from what I think we've seen reported in previous posts, we now seem to have
  • Toilets out of use periodically
  • Driver's door locking issues
  • Pantograph position detection failures
  • Engine fault - details unknown
  • Passenger displays blank, due to some onboard computer system failure presumably
  • Brake issue
Anything I've missed?

Edit: Apparently yes. We've now got "brake issue", reported below! Added to list above.

So the same as nearly every 8Xx fleet daily

Does anyone know why 810006 has been taken off the diagram and heading to Etches Park?

Any recent updates on 810011 & 013?
Nothing different to whats already been said. 011 is at Etches Park having preparations done for it to enter service. 013 is still at Aycliffe yet to be delivered (due soon)

So a year without reservations. I’m all for having some unreserved seating but that it’s going to be problematic at busy times for some

Better not to offer reservations than to set false expectations. They can be reinstated once everything is 810 operated.
Oh yes, I appreciate it’s a difficult one to manage, just hope it doesn’t put off people who are expecting to be able to reserve a seat on their shiny new trains and then unexpectedly end up standing for 2 hours.

Could be worse, you can stand for 4 hours on XC :D

They are all unreserved at the moment as the reservation system is not working!
Incorrect, reservations are being phased out for the transition period as the 810/222 systems are completely different and don't interwork

It's actually worked a lot better without reservations than with! If only they were removed permanently. Passengers are also aware beforehand that there will be no specific seats allocated

222004 had its door refitted and is out today.
Yes, I noticed that. It didn't go out yesterday, and I did wonder if it was going off-lease but it seems not. Probably the first two 810s belatedly replaced 222001/2 and the next will replace already off=lease 222005. So 222003/4 will last until the 4th and 5th 810s are in ser4vice. Based on logic though...

Greater Anglia manage perfectly well without any reservation on there services to Norwich.
See a seat, and sit in it. Easy.
People know to go to any seat. With no worry about it being reserved in route etc

A lot of trains still have reservations, I believe it’s only the 7 car diagrams that don’t at the moment?

I personally prefer trains without reservations. It means you can sit in any empty seat, which is easy and convenient, and not have to faff around trying to find one which isn't reserved, or have the issue of people not sitting in their assigned seats.

Currently it's the 7 car diagrams and two 5 car (the first two to eventually become 810)

I think it was mentioned up thread or on the class 222 thread that the arrangements with the leasing company determine when they go off lease.
Does anybody know if there is a definitive handback date that they have to be released by?
Or have EMR been fortunate enough to negotiate a rolling extension based on lumos requirements?
What's been clear in these last two weeks is that Class 810s still have quite a few faults that are causing them either to be substituted before the daily diagram or during it.
In the perfect world you would have at least two sets being able to run their diagrams reliably with at least a third set able to be on standby. At the moment it feels like you ideally need four sets to run two diagrams. It seems though one set can only run for 2 or 3 days and then needs a day in the depot to rectify faults.
Would I be right in thinking the other issue is that 810's cannot easily be swapped onto other diagrams due to there not being enough staff trained to crew them?
