Hi. I am new to this forum.
I would absolutely love to travel on a new class 810.
Can someone advise when a class 810 will operate from Long Eaton/Derby or Nottingham??

I would like to travel on Saturday or Sunday on the 20th/21st or 27th/28th December?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum and hope you enjoy your RF experience. Plenty of enriching, fascinating exchange of ideas across a wide breadth of subjects, even non-rail related.

They are already operating along the MML in passenger service and have been for about a week.

If you look through the last few pages, you’ll see which diagrams they are on. Then use the departure/arrival times on Realtime Trains or similar sites to find out which ones call at which stations.

Must admit I wasn't expecting the first Sunday diagrams to happen so soon after the weekday ones (or indeed this year).

If you want quite an interesting journey, this Sunday morning journey from Derby to Nottingham calling at Long Eaton and Beeston was an 810 today, and should be next week. https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:Y13295/2025-12-21/detailed

Otherwise diagrams are in this thread: https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/class-810-initial-diagrams.295116/

Thanks, but couldn't the power changeover on the Down be done while standing in the platform at Corby? - the Melton trains all call there. Or do changeovers have to be done automatically, so necessarily on the move?
No, you have to be on diesel arriving into Corby, as the "Goalkeeper" balises are situated a couple of miles back between Glendon and Geddington. These balises couldn't be moved as the infrastructure currently is, as there would be insufficient run off.
The only answer would be to extend the wires a mile or two towards Corby Tunnel, and I can't see that happening anytime soon for just one train a day.

I've already asked this question and got no feedback, but as we're on the toilet topic maybe you will know this:

Where is the at seat "Toilet occupied" indicator? The 222s have an indicator at the end of each carriage showing occupancy for the nearest toilet, surely the 810s have one? So why can't I see it? Am I just being daft and missing something obvious? Or do you really have to get up and walk to the toilet to find out if it's in use?
One of the screens that rolls round shows where the toilets are, they appear with a red line through them when occupied or OOU.

Edit: it's every third screen or about every 20 seconds, though I'll admit it's hard to see if you're more than about 3 rows away!

Thanks, interesting - that the mode can only be changed automatically by the balises.
Logically, it means there is no point in terminating future electrification at a station served by bi-mode trains that continue from there on diesel, because no train could actually arrive there on electric traction. I guess that's why there's talk of, for example, Syston or Trent junctions rather than Leicester or Derby.

It sounds like the mode is changed automatically on the move - subject to the balise and train communicating properly - otherwise driver can do this manually. However the option to change mode is done by the driver at depots / stations etc when stationary?

Watching a Don Coffey Youtube cab ride KX to Hull a while back I remember the MTU engines were required to be started and warmed up quite a while (think it was 15min) before the pan was lowered. Not sure if this was automated.

Ordinarily, power changeover is carried out manually, but has to be done before passing over the "Goalkeepers", which would then intervene and do it automatically.

Engine pre heat does start automatically, via GPS location. Flitwick area I believe.

Ah right, I've finally understood, sorry! The change can be done manually, but must be done before passing a 'goalkeeper', which obviously means being on the move. Also you've explained how the engine warming up happens (this sentence edited after reading your merged second post)

Sorry if this sounds a little dim, but it is just the pre-heat that takes place, no engines actually running?

I’ve seen some YouTube videos of northbound trains leaving Kettering and Market Harborough and I can’t hear the engines actually running. Guessing that they actually fire up when the pan is lowered?

However, if, like a previous poster mentioned, the engines actually do run, I would assume they’re effectively in neutral - ie merely idling, not actually providing power to the motors?

Thanks, that would explain why I didn't see it, I was expecting some sort of static indicator like on the 222s. I'll keep a close eye out next time , see how far away I can spot it from! It does seem like a backward step though.

Looks like another delivery tomorrow, 0836 Merchant Park Sidings to Etches Park Sdgs:

And also a 1206 Darlington to Etches Park Sdgs:

which originates at Merchant Park and goes MP-York-Darlington-Etches Park.

Would both actually run?
Merchant Park to Derby working is showing as cancelled on Real Time Trains

The engines are not running prior to (E to D) power changeover. Pre heating to 45° is done by an auxiliary coolant heater.

Similar sort of thing. Buried deep within the underneath where a Driver cannot venture.

A diesel heater? I'm surprised they've gone to that complexity when a few coils and a bit of 25kV would be able to warm things up nicely (after all the passenger cabin is heated electrically). Is it so it can also be used for a cold start on diesel?
