The latest "Push and Pull" dropped through the letterbox this morning. Some snippets of loco gen:

The overhaul of Bahamas is expected to take 18 - 24 months. It will be fitted with air brakes.

War Department 90733 and Rat 25059 should both be back in traffic in 2026.

52044 and 1054 are both expected to see passenger service over the winter.

78022 is visiting the Great Central in the New Year.

And an interesting snippet:

"The experience of using [48305] has certainly ignited enthusiasm for the possibility of overhauling our own 8F 48431 in the future."

That would be nice.

Thanks for sharing, I’m away from home for some time so won’t be able to read my copy for a while.

For Bahamas, whose mainline stock will fitting air brakes make it most compatible with?

I’m looking forward to the WD, that’s one of my favourites. The Rat will be fun too.

How many Standard 2’s do the GCR need though :D

Well the GCR 8F proved its worth, so there’s more of an incentive for something that can pull heavy trains even in fire risk season.

Under the present circumstances, both WCR and LSL run trains need air brakes. Though LSL have quite a few locos of their own so I'm not sure they will be bothered with hiring in an outsider.
VT are still vac braked.

Thanks, West Coast is the obvious candidate then!

By all the reports I have heard, the Standard 2s have proved excellent and economic performers on the GCR. Well suited to the line and traffic. I suspect another one won't be a problem!

Leaves the railway to 4 steam locos and 41241 has done many miles this year so that means that when 78022 goes, there will only be 3 operational locomotives

3?

Ivatt
Black 5
Standard 4
Green Dragon
Coal Tank

So 5 unless the Black 5 departs, then 4.

Nunney Castle and Braunton are the 2 guest locos for the Steam gala this year. Interesting combo I think

Presumably, the Standard 2 leaving to the GCR was part of the deal of the 8F coming in? If so, then they can hardly avoid it.

I still think they have enough options.

Movements to KWVR are generally quite costly as they have to be night time fully escorted moves. Tender locos, double transport costs.

You'd be surprised at what percentage of the total cost of the crane for Bridge 27 last year was the police escort.

They're both mainline certified aren't they? They'll probably be arriving between rail if that's the case, that's what they do for the diesel gala. It's why the diesel gala never has anything from non mainline connected heritage lines, to keep transport costs down, as they all arrive in convoy

Yes sorry I was meant to directly reply to kje7812 comment.

Does anyone know what running steam loco is running tomorrow ?
Update: it was 44932 top and tailed with the 20

== Doublepost prevention - post automatically merged: ==

Apparently 44932 has failed, it has been removed at Keighley. Update: the 14 is running round to haul the service up to Oxenhope.

44932 has been dragged back by the 101

So the Black 5 might not be leaving on Monday after all of it can't be fixed tomorrow.
